My private Aetna insurance plan already is the bureaucrat between me and my doctor. My doctor of 5 years switched practices and now my plan doesn't cover her at her new location. Whether that's her new clinic's choice or my insurance company's choice doesn't matter, I've still lost a great doctor that I've seen for almost 5 years. I don't have a choice in this case. I can't see her without paying $200 -300 per visit out of pocket. Private insurance IS NOT about choice, and care, it's about profit. In a single payer system, my doctor would be paid regardless or her address which would allow me to continue my care with her no matter where she chooses to practice down the road.....On a different note, my employer does not offer insurance for my husband or daughter and his doesn't offer it at all so we pay over $700 out of pocket each month for them. It's our largest expense besides our mortgage. And guess what, we just got notice that are premiums are going up by 20%. Yay, us!
