On the Blog: Iran Hostage Compensation

From late 1979 to early 1981, fifty-two Americans, mostly military and diplomatic personnel, were held hostage in Tehran by Islamic revolutionaries. They’re still seeking compensation.

Should they get it? Decide after reading our post entitled: Justice for Iranian Hostages: A Question of Values

Featured Items

This week, the House will debate bills that amend the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, which Congress passed in 2010.

H.R. 992, the Swaps Regulatory Improvement Act, would expand the ability of banks to use swaps trades to hedge risk. (A swap is a contract to exchange payments based on the price of an underlying asset or change in interest, exchange, or other reference rate. Swaps can be used to mitigate risks or to speculate based on expected changes in prices and rates.)

H.R. 992 would not result in significant spending.

H.R. 2374, the Retail Investor Protection Act would prevent the Labor Department from imposing new standards for financial advisers until the Securities and Exchange Commission issues standards of conduct for brokers and dealers of securities.

H.R. 2374 also would not result in significant spending.
