This week the House will meet for a shortened week. The Senate does not return until next week.
The House is scheduled to debate H.R. 152, the Disaster Relief Appropriations Act, 2013.
The bill would spend money in response to “Superstorm Sandy,” which occurred last October.
No official cost estimate exists for H.R. 152, but spending of $50 billion proposed in the bill amounts to about $475 per U.S. family.
Last Saturday, the president signed H.R. 41, a bill to “temporarily increase the borrowing authority of the Federal Emergency Management Agency for carrying out the National Flood Insurance Program.” The House and Senate passed the bill quickly at the beginning of the new Congress.
