Petition on Fort McClellan Toxic Exposure

A petition entitled, “Equal Medical Rights for the Fort McClellan Toxic Exposure Veterans,” got its start here yesterday, and it already has over 75 signers.

Its purpose is to seek passage of a medical and disability bill for service veterans of Fort McClellan, Alabama. That’s H.R. 2052, The Fort McClellan Health Registry Act.

That bill has plenty of votes and comments, including a fair amount of “trolling” from one or more people who don’t want to see the bill succeed. We’re big on free speech around here, but you don’t have to listen, so we’ve created comment controls for logged-in users.

Here’s a benefit of petitioning: On petition pages, only petition signers can comment, and the petition creator can exclude commenters who try to be disruptive.

You can learn more about petitions. The Fort McClellan toxic exposure veterans’ petition has plenty of information about their side of the issue.

I, too was at Ft. McClellan from the summer of 1979 until Jan. 1980 for Basic training and AIT. I just learned about this “toxic” information recently, noticed I might have some existing symptoms because of exposure. (There was not enough room at McClellen barracks, and we had to live near town off post)and would like someone to get in contact with me ASAP so I can figure out what to do next. My email is: bigmako@att.net
Thank you.

Please support H.R. 2052. I was at Ft. McClellan in 1977 for basic training and became ill will stationed there and continue getting illnesses similar to others that were stationed there. At this point it’t too coincidendal that we all have similiar and odd health problems.
Thank You for your consideration in this matter.

Both me and my husband went there for Basic in Spring of 1987! ;0(

I took my basic /ait training at McClellan in 1977 and experienced the heat of July. Many of us became ill. I now have an undiagnosed illness that the VA is unable to identify and my life as I knew it has ceased to exist. They told me I had MS, then recanted; “old” ministrokes, they say, are not causing my problems and their suggestion is to do physical therapy. That won’t diagnose anything. My health hasn’t been good since I left Alabama. Hmmmm…something from there maybe? I certainly hope this bill passes. Too many people with afflictions to be coincidence.

ORIGINALLY FROM CHICAGO NOW LIVE IN VEGAS.JUST FOUND OUT THIS CRAP FROM MY VSO. WOW EVERYTHING MAKES SENSE. ESPECIALLY BEING IN AND OUT OF HOSPITALS, MY LIFE AFTER THE ARMY. 1985 WAS IN THE INFIRMARY RIGHT BEFORE I WAS TO GRADUATE.A-11,4TH PLT.

I too served at Ft. McClellan for training pre VietNam in 1974. And now have various neurological illnesses? Also stationed at Ft. Ord in CA for training there and got sick as well? Neurological damaged has consistently gotten worst over the years and now the VA is taking a look at my claim after denial for nearly 30 years. You ust be consistent and continue the fight and tell your children to keep the fight for you as well!! Never give up, never leave a soldier behind, not in the jungle fills, paper trail or any other trail…fight fight!

My two younger sisters and I all joined the Army in 1968 and 1970 Judy was our youngest “baby” sister
she joined in 1970 after Margie and I joined in 1968. We were so proud we were going to become medics. We wanted to help all the terribly injured soldiers we saw on TV every night coming back from Viet Nam, My sister Judy died in seervice reportedly with acute hemorrhagic pancreatits at 21 years old, I have type 2 diabetes with peripheral neuropathy. periperal vascualr disease and many other illnesses. My younger sister margie has just been diagnosed with chonic lymphatic lukemia. We all did basic training at Fort McClellan. It is too lat for Jusy but is there anything we can do to right this terrible injustice and its’ blatant coverup?

I have been out of basic only 14 years. I have several neurological disorders that the army swears is mono. Funny how I can have mono for more than four years. I heard about this and read about the symptoms. Remarkable. The question now is who can I go to for help and is there any stopping the progression of sypmtoms?

I too am a fort mc clellan, I ahve abrain tumer and a leision in my right lung. My brain is stage 4 cancer and mt lung is beleived to be stage 1 or 2 cancer, the doctors can’t help me and I am going to die

Ft McClellan, Ft Ord, Sunflower Ammo Dump are three bases that EPA placed pn Superfund list as toxic to humans.
Then check out what was infused into fatigues to protect us from insect bites.
I was at McClellan in 1977-what gas was used for training (gas chamber), how many :vaccines were we given and what were they for??? (And how did they create the “vaccines”)
Dental work can be equally as toxic (Dr.Omar Amin is recognized for his research for chemical poisoning, NCS is diagnosis)..if you had any type of issuse with sinus, gums, teeth, removal of teeth or fillings.. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT to CONSIDER too.
I am totally disabled ssince 2004, lost all teeth and hair from NCS diagnosis.
Just learned that my DNA was mutated, I have no hormones, severe infections including Lymes and toxic metal poisoning which means that my immune system isn’t functioning…
I am appalled at the way I have been treated since applying for disability benefits,
Be careful and make sure you have a copy of every test, doctors, treatements…why? My real medical records were replaced with fake information including doctor name whom I never met!
MY MEDICAL DIAGNOSIS, TEST RESULTS AHAVE BEEN ALTERED MAKING IT APPEAR AS IF NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH ME EXXCEPT CRAZY (my layman term for mental illness).
How can we trust the process not only through VA but for SSDI and or private disability insurance plans.
I do not know who to turn to for help.I have depleted my 401K, my savings…in debt for medical bills over 50,000.00 at 16% and being so ill causes more problems when you cannot understand or know there are benefits for the soldiers could be mine and should be mine now.
Female without hope unless we stand together.
The loss of money is hard but the attitude that I have to prove the illness with two hands tied behind my back plus no idea what is available to ask for….
Anyone know what to do I’d love to hear it///

Eric

Did basic there in 96. Had at least 2 chemical leak alerts while there. Hopefully I am one of the lucky ones with no effects… I guess with this kind of stuff you never really know.

It may have gotten a good start but it’s still in committee and we’re dying out here. It seems to me that both sides could put aside their differences to help those who served to protect this country. If they can’t then they need to resign.

I was at FT. McClellan from May 5,1968 until July 23, 1968 for basic training and have diabetes type II and was just diagnosed with lymphoma today. I remember crawling through the underbrush during both the day and night marches. Smoke everywhere…gave me nightmares, but nothing compared to this.

I was stationed at Fort McClellan, AL in 1990-91 for Basic Training and AIT-MP Academy (D787th and A787th, resp.). I served whole heartedly, believing that the US Military cared about its Service Men/Women. I was a well decorated soldier, even receiving the Army Achievement Medal. I have suffered unexplainable health issues since…even being diagnosed with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS). I haven’t been well for years and getting progressively worse. Something has to be done to help all those who served at this knowingly TOXIC base. Another Veteran’s day upon us…who in power is going to truly help us who served loyally?

Nancy F

I was at Ft McClellan for basic training in 1984 and remember the gas chamber and chemical drills. I have had many weird health problems over the years I am upset for two reasons. 1) We shouldn’t have been exposed. 2) We should have been notified so we could get proper care. I have degenerative disc disease and had spinal fusion, and I have been diagnosed with possible M.S., possible Lyme disease, CFS, depression, ADD, IBS, sleep apnea, kidney cysts, etc.

Charles P. Hornung

served in ft mc clelan in 1987. had my 1st pacemaker in 2001, second in 2009. abnormal polyps removed in 2008. was told im loosing intestinal lining. In my first va claim I was denied and told va didnt have to recognize any of my conditions because it has not passed legislation to do so. My case is in appeal now. So when I break my leg I ask you all for a yes vote on a cast.

Tom Donlon
