On the Blog: Congress Doesn’t Budget

We investigated the charge that the Senate hasn’t produced a budget in over 1,000 days and found that Congress doesn’t really do budgets at all.

This week, the Senate will debate H.R. 658, the FAA Reauthorization and Reform Act of 2011.

The bill would authorize spending over the 2011-2014 period on activities of the Federal Aviation Administration and other federal programs related to aviation.

Passage of H.R. 658 would cost the average U.S. family about $315.

The House will debate H.R. 1734, the Civilian Property Realignment Act.

The bill would establish a commission to recommend better management of federal buildings and facilities, and to recommend the sale of at least five specific civilian facilities that have a combined estimated fair market value of at least $500 million.

Passage of would H.R. 1734 would cost the average U.S. family just under sixty cents.
