On the Blog: Stopgap Spending

With just days to go before the new fiscal year, and without a single annual spending bill passed, Congress is turning to a short-term “continuing resolution” to fund the government starting October 1st.

We track the bill’s convoluted course so far in a post entitled: “Follow the Bouncing Bill.”

Featured Item

The continuing resolution that must pass by the end of the week is H.R. 2608, the Continuing Appropriations Act, 2012. It would spend money to run the federal government through November 18th. The 2012 fiscal year begins October 1st, but Congress has not passed any spending bills for the new fiscal year.

Passage of H.R. 2608 would spend about a half trillion dollars, or a little over $4,900 per U.S. family.
