From the Blog: “Jobs for Main Street” or “Son of Stimulus”?

H.R. 2847 started its life as the Commerce, Justice, Science Appropriations Act, one of the big annual spending bills. But now Congress is using that bill as a vehicle for another bill, the “Jobs for Main Street Act.”

It’s being called “Son of Stimulus” by some of its detractors. Read about it in a blog post called, “What’s up with H.R. 2847?

While the Senate remains on recess, the House returns from the holiday break this week with a short schedule. No major legislation is planned, but the House will consider several less controversial bills.

One is H.R. 2646, the Government Accountability Office Improvement Act of 2009. At no significant cost to taxpayers, the bill would increase the powers of the Government Accountability Office.

GAO would get authority to obtain certain records and administer oaths to witnesses as it examines the management of the government.

The House will also consider H.R. 3237, To enact certain laws relating to National and Commercial Space Programs as title 51, United States Code, “National and Commercial Space Programs.”

Also at no significant cost to taxpayers, the bill would codify and slightly amend the the law relating to national and commercial space programs.
