From the Blog: Senate to Advance Health Care Bill

The Senate worked through the weekend on health care, and the latest news reports say a deal has been struck that will allow the Senate to pass its version of health care legislation on Christmas eve. Read about it in a blog post entitled: “‘Senate Claus’ Delivers a Health Care Bill—Including an Individual Mandate

The House has finished work for the year. Before it adjourned, it passed H.R. 3326, the Department of Defense Appropriations Act, 2010. The Senate passed the bill later in the week, preparing it for the president’s signature.

The bill sets spending levels for the Department of Defense for the remainder of the current fiscal year, which goes until September 30, 2010.

Passage of H.R. 3326 spends about $5,140 per average-sized U.S. family.

The Senate will continue to debate health care and H.R. 3590, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The bill would revise the health care and health insurance systems in the United States.

A new cost estimate puts the cost of H.R. 3590 at about $7,250 per U.S. family.
