H.R. 3548 – Web page overload!
For the last hour-and-a-half or so, the comment function has been out of commission for H.R. 3548.
As I stepped out to a meeting, I noticed that the site was down, so I put my Web/database team on the case. They determined that traffic on H.R. 3548 was too high for our servers to handle and set it so that we could fulfill your requests to view the page without taking down the whole site. To do this, they disabled the comment function.
It’s now back up. I’ll go read all the cards and letters you sent me in the meantime.
I want each and every one of you to know that it wasn’t personal and it didn’t have anything to do with H.R. 3548—I mean, other than your interest in it.
We’re a site that runs on a shoestring budget and when we have too much success, it can result in failure. Carry on! And please accept our apologies for the outage.

Man the Republican’s in the senate are trying to approve another 7 billion over the next 5 years for Pakistan..Today!….Can we get a CBO for that crap…
Michelle W.
Please approve the H.R. 3548 bill, I ran out of benefits several months ago and have 2 small children. This is currently my only income. I have filled out application after application and sent out countless resumes. Here in FL the unemployment rate is out of control. Please push the bill, rush the bill for all of us in need. If I do not receive the extension asap, we like many others will be out in the streets! Thank you, in advance.
Kevin
Thanks for letting our voices be heard. And for keeping us up to date on this important bill.
Kevin
Also found this template form that will let you send email/letters to your senator. Whether you are catholic or not, if you want to try and get this bill passed soon it’s not a bad idea.

I guess those of us who worked hard all our lives who just ran out of unemployment and have no hope of finding a job in the near future are going to be homeless along with our children, but like always the republicans are more worried about their rich than those of us who are GOING to be homeless, there is NO way with out any money we will live.
Dennis
Pass this bill plz

onawa2000
We need this extension NOW. A lot of people will be out on the street without homes pretty soon. They could use some of the TARP money for the unemployed instead of giving it to Wall Street fat cats to spend on executive bonuses.
C W
For anyone that does not know about this, I just found it. Here are the first 2 paragraphs and the URL. I did a google search on updates through the Associated Press.
As of October 15, 2009
WASHINGTON (AP) – Hoping to keep the precarious economic recovery on track, the Senate is considering a plan to extend and expand a stimulus-package provision giving first-time homebuyers an $8,000 federal tax credit.
One idea now being discussed is to COMBINE the homebuyers’ credit WITH legislation, strongly backed by the Obama administration, to extend federal assistance to the millions of people in danger of exhausting their UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE BENEFITS. That bill is likely to reach the Senate floor NEXT WEEK.

Isn’t this lovely of them. I lose my benefits in two weeks.

A message to all my fellow unemployed who are waiting on this bill to pass.Take out a sharpe and write on every dollar bill that you spend. H.R.3548 NOW! It will still spend and if its done enough people will start asking what it means.

I look everyday for an update on the unemployment extension and everyday I am getting more pissed off with what they are doing. I don’t see why they can’t pass this bill and then argue the paticulars after it passes. Borrow money from somewhere and then replace it. We are struggling out here. I am a single mother of two. I have been unemployed for 79+ weeks still no job in site. The people at the unemployment office here in MA act like it’s my fault I can’t find a job. I wish they would see how many other people are in the same boat as me. Pass this bill now
refinnej

What is going on,Im a single parent with a 16yr old daughter who’s a excellent student. My unemployment ran out in Sept.I have applied to so many jobs and can’t even get a interview,I hope they pass the bill and release the funds before I become homeless.
will work for food
the only way we are going to get this done is to stand up for ourselves, writing about it this is not doing everything the senators laugh behind closed doors because they have complete control, if you want to do something set up protests, go walk the streets with picket signs I personally put an ad on craigslist looking for people who are ready to fight this battle instead of sniveling about it. facebook the senate sucks
I Need A Job
I worked for the State of CA for 28 yrs w/an excellent employment history. I was an administrative supervisor during the last 6 yrs. The Department I worked for “Reorganized/Downsized” cut by 50%. The State of CA has a freeze. I am now 50 yrs. old and have not been able to secure employment in the private sector and my bennies ended last month. I have had only 3 real job interviews the entire time I received bennies (at one interview I was told that I was in the top 5 candidates, and that they had received over 1,000 apps for 1 position. There just are not enough jobs to go around). PLEASE PASS HR 3548 so that I can receive the extra time to complete the CA EDD Worknet Program to have the opportunity to give it my best shot at securing employment. My family will loose our home without the extra $$$/Time.

You voted your self a pay raise, which is quite interesting since we the tax payers are your employer and we did not grant this raise, we the taxpayers for decades deserve this extension as soon as possible not just for ourselves, but our families. Pass the extension stop dancing around while we suffer.

Bill 3548 needs to made priority by the Senate
Adelmo Soto
My benefits expired several weeks ago. Unable to make COBRA payments-lost health benefits. Unable to get needed medication. Am I to end up sick and homeless? Then maybe I will cease to be a statistic and you can say the unemployment numbers have gone down, or unemployment claims have decreased. I continue to look for work-nothing. I am depending on Unemployment to survive. I am not a deadbeat. Worked 30 years-had a $100k salary-lost it all.
Gregory M Lichtenson
PLEASE OH GOD PASS HR 3538 NOW!! I HAVE RUN OUT OF MONEY!!
Jayne - Michigan
There are hundreds of thousands of people like myself with out unemployment or any income with children and with out children who desperately need this extenstion to pass. If the money is in there even if its not we need the help of our government. Keep the money home not over seas. I have a 2 and a half year old that I need to support (not getting help from the x husband) I have worked in accounting for more than 20 years and have applied to 600 plus jobs since 12.2008 I can not move out of my state due to a court order for visitation I can only move within 100 miles so what am I to do?? Get up off your cushy couches Senators and pass this bloody bill!!!!!!!
will work for food
you know I’m tired of listening to all of you whiners on here its almost laughable you are all sheep, if you want change do something about it, I’m not trying to be a troll I’m just trying to give you a dose of reality, they have been saying it should be voted on next week for a month now, what do you think is going to happen next week? until we get organized like the teaparty people, or the immigrants who pretty much shut down our streets to protest we will accomplish nothing. It saddens me that immigrants that are not even citizens of this country can do a better job of getting the attentino of the media, what a joke I think come monday I might be the only one but I’m going to hit the streets with a sign and get some media attention, maybe all of you should quit whining and do the same.
Jayne - Michigan
Will Work for Food,
I agree with you we need to work together and get too the media and washington!! but it’s damn hard to do that when you have no money to even put gas in your car. I am willing to do what ever I have to to get the attention of the media. Those senitors have jobs so they don’t care they can keep the roof over their heads and the food in their families mouths!!
will work for food
I understand Jayne if I had the money to fly to Washington DC right now I would be on a plane, there are some people mailing top ramen to senators I think i will mail a case to Senator Orin Hatch of Utah since he is the one that keeps objecting on a vote. Other than that get a sign and start walking, I posted on craigs list and am trying to get unemployed people together to go downtown and picket so try the same in your state, it might just be me but I will go picket in front of the news crews if I have to
mom of 3
PASS THIS BILL ALREADY!! Ran out of extensions just like the rest of you. Now my husband gets laid off with more to come with the company he worked for. They let go 5,000 before, now more and they say they aren’t done, 1,500 or more to come. Come on, wake up this economy is not getting any better, Senators, as I see it things are getting worse. Everyone in my family has been affected, friends, collegues, all got the boot. It was one thing when I lost my job, now my husband. At least I had healthcare, even with the 35% we have to pay that is over $400.00, can’t pay for that with just his peanuts of unemployment. My company closed due to foreign competition, not surprised, all manufacturing is going. I went to college, got a job in my profession, than a company in Mexico takes over and we are gone, nice. Now my husband loses his job because the electronics have taken a dive, what’s next. I got a scholarship to go back to school, great because my husband had a job, and only had a year to go, now he is out of a job. The more we try to get ahead we end up going backwards. I need this extension so my kids have healthcare, food, shelter, and clothes. See Mr. Senator these are necessary to live, not your luxurious cars, many houses. I just want one house, a car to go to work and to provide the necessities to my family. Our economy has to be fixed, working on the healthcare bill doesn’t fix that. GET YOUR PRIORITIES STRAIGHT!! WE NEED JOBS!! We have become a society of consumers who bring in other products from other countries and we need to change that back to manufacturing and suppliers in order to turn this economy around.
Jayne - Michigan
I think you have a great idea to picket out in front of the media and what ever other public arena there is. Maybe if I take my two year old with me I may get somewhere. Those are the true faces of this problem. We are not considered a 3rd world country but we treat our people like we are. This is the worst it’s been since I can remember and I went through the recession of the 80’s still had no problem getting work.
Thanks everyone for listening I’m going to take the same steps at “will work for food”
Kim Ryan
I lost my job in February, my home in June. I have lived in 7 locations since, including a tent! My credit is being destroyed because I cannot pay my bills. I have applied for hundreds of jobs and not even had an interview. I finally found a room to rent, but now that my benefits have run out, I’m looking at a cold winter living on the streets in Michigan. PLEASE, PLEASE GET THIS BILL THROUGH!
will work for food
I just started an email address just for trying to organize rallies, it is boycottthesenate@live.com I’m trying to organize a protest for wednesday anybody that wants ideas for their own state or to take action and not be a sheep and sit and pray can email me and together we will make this happen.
Jayne - Michigan
Hello Everyone we need to do just what “will work for food” says rally together send your stories to all the senators you can especially those who are stalling this bill!! We need to pull together as American Citizens and push our weight through those hypothetical doors and make them listen!! I have already emailed more than a dozen senators today with my story. We all need to do this. Here is a website I found to contact senators http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm
will work for food
signing a petition isn’t going to accomplish anything, you can sign until your blue in the face, we need action, action gets the media involved, protesting out in front of your local Senators office and getting the media to take notice is whats going to work, we need rally’s not people sitting around on here praying for something to happen, if thats the case every week we will here the same thing, which is next week, next week, next week and we will here it forever. email me at boycottthesenate@live.com so we can put our heads together and organize peaceful protests around the country and those in DC should protest at the Senate.
Carol

DEBRA COMPTON
I had an interview yesterday, it took borrowing money to get there in my car, I am living with my brother who is growing more hostile by the day regarding my long stay, we need this extension until this country has job creation again, the stress of no job on top of no money to meet basic needs is more than overwhelming.
Sharon
I have been looking for a job for the past year and half, even changed my career and went into more debt.I still can not find a job. Please undrstand that we are doing everything we can. We didn’t quit our jobs. We are the victums, we are the ones who paid the price for the mistakes of the people who are not even in power now. Please help us. We have kids, and homes, bills, medical bill. Please help us survive. Please either give us jobs or money. I am educated, trained and ready and willing to work ASAP.
Jayne - Michigan
@ Sharon,
I would assume that most of us are educated and just simply want to work. I too changed my career and went into more debt just to find a job and found that due to no experience in that field it is almost impossible to get a job.
I have search for work since March of 2007 and nothing has come up I have had three interviews since then. I am a controller/bookkeeper/office manager…… I have run $25 mil companies as well as $25 companies. Now our great city is sending even more jobs away. Costa Rica and these are financial positions leaving now not manufacturing positions.
kate celestino
How can the politicians sleep knowing that so many people need help? Do they not feel any of the pain of their constituents? I HAVE a job and grateful for it. But with so many that are going without, I cannot believe that it can go unnoticed? Pass the law already. Every day, every moment that goes by there are thousands that will suffer. How can they live with that?
PA unemployed since 2007
They do not give a rats ash about the working class if they did they would have passed it already they want to try to make themselves look good by waiting until Christmas to pass the extension that way we can stimulate the economy by buying for Christmas We need to clean house totally get rid of them all and start anew 4year max no extra perks no free bees either live off your paycheck that we the people provide we put your ass in we can take it out of office too
Jayne - Michigan
@ PA unemployed since 2007
I feel you I am the same March 2007. And yes you are correct they dont care about us. Just wait the the lack of tax money hits their paychecks. When no one is working no taxes are collected to support them. It may not hit them right now or in the next year or two but this “great recession” is going to get worse and the government is going to have no choice but to cut and cut big. If for one minute they thing that passing this bill at Christmas will help the economy they are crazy. People wont spend because most of us have over spent just to pay bills we will have to pay off the loans, credit cards and what ever else to stay out of hock. I agree with 4 year limits most of those sitting in those seats are fat and happy baby boomers meaning $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
PA unemployed since 2007
@Jayne-Michigan
Mine was March 28, 2007 to be exact. They way they handle things it is really pathetic all this at the working persons expense if the govt had been watching the watchers allalong we would not be in this position now. Baby Bush giving tax breaks to co that out-source jobs the tale of wmd’s in Iraqu they should impeach his sorry ass for running this country into the toilet notice how everything was fine economy was good Bush & thieving Chaeney both said it then a month or so later when it hits their pocketbooks oh its at a catostrophic proportion like none other what a joke Chaeney was part of the whole Enron collaps in CA these people all have their heads so far up their necks are all brown some of these people in office are older than dirt they need to go and be replaced by brilliant determined out side the box thinkers and doers
Michele
Please someone hear us and get this bill passed ASAP! We don’t care about the Healthcare issues or anything else right now. We have children, have been out of work for so long and have families and children to support. There has to be someone out there to help us. My benefits ran out in September and I have no way to pay the rest of my bills or my November rent. Why is no one helping us and putting all iof their focus on the Healthcare issues? We’ll all be dead from starvation or from exposure snce we are all losing our homes or being kicked out of our apartment!
Our children are suffering and no one is making things easier! It’s not that we don’t want to work, we just can’t find anyone to hire us or willing to even interview us for a stinkin job. I’m even willing to work for minimum wage…. it gets me nowhere!
Jayne - Michigan
@ PA Unemployed since 2007
You are right on the money!! Too bad this site falls on deaf ears and none of those senators stalling read this. I lost my Job March 13, 2007 two days after I came back from maternity leave.
@ Michele
I hear you I am so worried about where I am going to go with my child (2.5 years) that it’s crazy. I am scared we will become homeless and the court will give her to her drunk, addict, abusive father just because he has a roof over his head. No we don’t care about the health care issue at this point!!
Jayne - Michigan
We all need to contact our senators and all of the other ones out there with our stories!! I have contacted via email more than 3 dozen senators in the last couple of days. Told them my story. here is the web site for all the senators.
http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm
Jayne - Michigan
Stand up and organize a protest in your local area post it on craigslist post it on facebook post it on linkedin post it on any free media you can. Ask that others to help out all we can do is post it say it and do it where ever possible!! Put a sign in your front yard, your car, your windows. Ask your neighbors if they are willing to help!!
PA unemployed since 2007
Hey Jane-Michigan what your employer did to you after you came back from maternity is illegal it is discrimination I had an employer send me a letter at home 2 weeks after my son was born I was devistated you go thru the eeoc and file a complaint they investigate (yeah right they are just as well to ask the employer if they discriminated)after they file their report you have I think 60days to procede with an attorney for wrongful seperation due to discrimination for monetary damages check in your state for the eeoc and the statute of limitations
Jayne - Michigan
@ PA unemployed since 2007
I did file a suite and filed a complaint with the eeoc. They investigated and could not prove that I was let go due to my daughters birth. I filed complaints with all kinds of places and no attorney would touch my case for what money I had. They said it’s too hard to prove. Can you believe that??
PA unemployed since 2007
Jayne-Michigan
Oh I’m so sorry they did that. See the eeoc in PA didn’t find anything in my case either and the attorneys should be taking it on a contingent fee basis no money should come out of your pocket layer gets paid when company settles I kinda had an inside track I was friends with alot of the gals their still and one in particular was the receptionist and she really was an awsome witness so was my immediate supervisor my managers deposition blew human resources depo out of the water I didn’t realize he thought so highly of my work product and efficiency said I was a hard worker like some other girl Caroline whom he held to a high standard of work practices I think he compared every employee under his direction to her standard of work ethics and dedication. Any way I’m sorry for their actions towards you just after the most wonderful event in a womans life how rotten can they be. It doesn’t appear to me that any government agency that is supposed to help the individual really puts forth too much effort to get to the truth but they are none to happy to make the individual look like a total boob

@ PA unemployed since 2007,
Thanks Much for the empathy. I would have had a weak case as there were only a hand full of employees and they were all my subordinates, not to say they didn’t like me but the attornies I spoke to stated it wouldn’t hold much weight “fearing of the loss of their jobs” is how it was put. I was the controller of a $25 mil company, now I am broke, living on nothing (x got half of my money in divorce when my job caved he left me)I got stuck with all the bills and no help!! Thats Michigan Court systems for you!!

Does the fact this site was on overload give ANYONE IN WASHINGTON even a clue of how much of an emergency this issue is?!!!! I’ve called, written any government oficial I can, signed petetions, etc, all while still looking for that elusive job. With all due respect to our leaders, why can’t this bill be the 1st order of business EVERYDAY- UNTIL IT PASSES, before the entire economy of unemployed HUMAN BEINGS just disappear without a care from the government. We’re hurt, we’re broke. we’re trying, but ARE YOU, IN WASHINGTON, REALLY TRYING? Please make this bill THE ONLY ISSUE NOW. We DO NOT HAVE ANY MORE TIME TO WASTE. All of the other so called “ISSUES” on the floor CAN WAIT, WE CAN”T! I’m 52 and been working since age 16, but have been unemployed since Sept 2008. Not looking for a “handout”. Just hoping for more time and a CHANCE to contribute to the economy by working again. Oh,and by the way, don’t EVEN get me started on the “Wall St. Fat Cat” bonuses rearing their ugly heads in the news again!!!
Alice
I too lost my job 9/2008. It’s an endless, exhausting and depressing routine every morning. Last count I was up to 223 total combined resumes/applications I have sent. No luck finding a job. I am fifty two, have worked since I was the age of 15. Was born in the state of Maryland, raised in the state of Maryland, paid my taxes to the state of Maryland. For what? To be told sorry but because you did not make 10x’s your weekly unemployment amount you do not qualify to get benefits for the 2nd year. WHAT????????? Don’t you think if I was able to get a phone call and land a job that piece of rule/regulation from the state unemployment guidelines would make sense to me? Get your heads out of the sand Maryland. This is not the usual unemployment case(s) out there. We have not had unemployment this bad in decades. And why are we in this mess? Because banks made faulty loans to people who could not understand they would be taken on a financial roller coaster down the road. Then we have wall street trolls who prayed on innocent people and stole their whole life savings right out from underneath them. Oh and guess what? The government bailed alot of them out (betcha our taxes end up footing that bill too – no matter what government officials try and tell us otherwise). So now here me and many others out there are asking are asking for their help and we get a flat “sorry, but you are not eligible”. To all you politicans who think the unemployment is not an issue all I keep saying is thanks for taking my American Dream and turning it into an AMERICAN NIGHTMARE. Job well done! And you wonder why people lose their faith in our system. Enough said
Jayne - Michigan
I Lost my employment in March of 2007, Have been searching ever since. I am 42 years old with a 2-1/2 year old and single. (money ran out husband ran out) In eight months I applied for more than 600 jobs doing anything. In that same 8 months I had one interview. I started working on a work permit when I was 13 years old and every tax dollar I have paid in my life time has been to the State of Michigan. As I have stated before in this place. NO ONE FROM WASHINGTON READS THIS. WE NEED TO WRITE TO OUR GOVERNMENT.
Wonderful place to share our stories.

Elections to the United States Senate will be held on November 2, 2010, for at least 36 of the 100 seats in the United States Senate. There will also be a special election on January 19, 2010.
This is our time to send a message.

Latest Major Action: 10/21/2009: Senate floor actions. Status: Motion to proceed to consideration of measure withdrawn in Senate.
Ok Tell me what is meant by this statement??
DOUG
My wife and I are both unemployed we need HR 3548
to pass. If it doesn’t pass we are in deep trouble. If the Senate wants to keep playing games and spend more money on credits cash for clunkers and home purchase credits, then send me 25K of TARP money so that I can retrofit my refrigerated truck and buy insurance. I can create my own job so I wont need unemployment monies.

I did everything “right” as well. I went to college got a degree and a Masters Degree. I have 18 years in my field. I have been unemployed since Dec 2007. I live in Georgia. No one is hiring a Staff Accountant??? Give me a break. I have had 8 interviews in 2 years….8…that is all! They have lowered the pay to $35,000. The same job title with a degree was $50,000 start in Jan 07. Now my head hunters want me to GO BACK TO COLLEGE AGAIN! For what? I am 40 years old and have 4 children not to mention that 2 of my kids are in college. I am so scared…I used up all of my 401k (that which I didn’t lose in the market). I feel depressed and sick. I am afraid anytime someone passes the house. I can’t take much more. Please pass this bill. Please

Shamefull!!!!, is what it is;
Republicans are using hard working
americans when at their lowest place in life to toy with the Democrats;
what will it take for crime to rise
for the american people to start looting, and rioting to feed their
families,it’s shameful. To all the
democrats that have been working aggressively to help all in need,
(exspecially leader Mr. Reid);
Thank you, We the people will never
forget this, People never forget when they see their children hungry, this is not about politics
anymore, this is about being humane.

I’ve been more patient than most. I live life, not in fear, but in the daily blessing of God and doing my best to save for the day I don’t get any assistance.
But this has gone on too long. I have been without my unemployment for over six weeks and am in the red zone.
Now, my two GOP Senators recently voted to move this along. Good for them; I give them credit. We are a state well above the national average.
Senators; I respect your positions and hold you all (no matter what party) in high regard. Please, GET THIS DONE! I would prefer not to spend this holiday season on the streets with my kids.
I spend 45 hrs a week looking. I have taken the additional steps on turning away from the internet, at least part time and doing the following: Walk into places of employment and shaking their hands. And two, networking my butt off. This is done, despite my Pancreatic infection (I am a type one diabetic) and being sick about every day. I have no health insurance, but thank God just found out the VA can support me. One time combat veteran.
Again, all I ask is the Senate to pay attention to this. They are so wrapped up in Health Care Reform (or Deform) and the Housing credit and are forgetting those who can’t do either.
GET THIS DONE SO I CAN PAY MY RENT NEXT MONTH; please!

I’ve been in the Carpenters Union sense 1982 and have never seen things so bad. I don’t even know where I can move to to find work and my union asked us all to support Obama and for what. Here came the new boss same as the old boss. I wish I could flush the white house like I flush my toilet and get rid of the crap and yes I do watch fox news so I get some real news. Things need to change that’s for sure. Who represent ‘we the people’ now???

UE in MI
No they did not and there is chance for yet another cloture motion to vote on meaning now it could be thursday or friday before it goes back to the house and get squeezed in between the health care discussion. so it could be yet another week or more before anything happens with it.
