FY 2010 Spending Tracker Updated – $20,000 per Family

We’ve updated the FY 2010 Spending Tracker. The House has now voted on each of the twelve bills that dictate spending for the 2010 fiscal year which starts October 1st.

The Senate has seven bills of its own and has acted on a couple of the House bills.

That’s where the action will be when Congress returns in September, with less than a month to finish the process.

The total for all twelve bills in the House is just over $20,000 in spending for each U.S. family. (The difference between that number and the budget has to do with how these separate steps in the budget process report spending.)

If Congress can complete work before the beginning of the fiscal year, that will be an impressive feat.

Most years in the last decade, it has failed to settle on spending levels in a timely way, leading to confusion in Congress – and throughout the government.
