Happy Tax Day!

There’s lots of enthusiasm out there in the land today because it’s April 15th, the day that personal income tax filings are due.

If you want to see all the bills in Congress related to taxation, check out this page. The Unemployment Benefit Tax Suspension Act is at the top of the list and a perennially popular bill. I’d be interested in an Employment Tax Suspension Act, but everyone would like lower taxes.

Actually, not everyone. It’s interesting to see how people are pushing back against the “tea party” movement on Twitter. Some folks are pointing out the things that they pay taxes for. We’d be in a heap of trouble if all taxes went away, of course.

Striking the balance and finding the right level of taxation is the problem, of course. So have fun with it, however you feel about tax day. Staying aware of what’s going on with your government every day is the path forward. The more informed people are, the better our debates about government and taxation will be.
