National Debt Clock Runs Out of Space
In case you missed the news, the National Debt Clock has run out of room.
The national debt recently crossed through ten trillion dollars, requiring the Durst organization, which maintains it in New York City, to drop the dollar sign and make room for the “1″ in the tens of trillions column.
Ten trillion looks like this, by the way -
$10,000,000,000,000.00
- just so you know.
At this writing, the national debt is actually nearing $10.3 trillion, which is about $33,700 per man, woman, and child in the United States, according to this site (which updates constantly - check for the latest!).
Back in September, 2000, the clock ran backwards (from about $5.6 trillion) as the federal government paid down its debts. Ah, the good old days.
