With just over two weeks to go before the beginning of the new fiscal year October 1st, neither the House or the Senate have introduced all the annual spending bills, and none have passed into law. “Annual Spending Process: Nothing to Report” has the details.

Featured Items

This week, the House is scheduled to debate, H.R. 6842, the National Capital Security and Safety Act.

The bill would require require the District of Columbia to revise its laws regarding the use and possession of firearms as necessary to comply with the requirements of the decision of the Supreme Court in the case of District of Columbia v. Heller.

The cost per U.S. family of implementing H.R. 6842, the National Capital Security and Safety Act, would be minimal.

The House will continue debating H.R. 3036, the No Child Left Inside Act of 2007. The bill is intended to improve environmental education in schools.

Passage of the bill would cost the average U.S. family about $0.22.

The Senate is scheduled to return to S. 3001, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2009.

The bill authorizes spending for fiscal year 2009 (separate appropriations bills do the actual spending) on military activities of the Department of Defense, on military construction, and on defense activities of the Department of Energy. It also prescribes military personnel strengths.

Passage of S. 3001, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2009, would cost the average U.S. family just under $9,000.
