Summary

With fuel costs rising and traffic an ever-present problem in Hampton Roads, light rail will be a critical investment in our future economic development. Funding will be used to conduct the necessary studies in order to determine the feasibility of advancing light rail to Naval Station Norfolk and Virginia Beach. This would extend the 7.4 mile starter line now under construction in Norfolk, providing key links in a new fixed guideway regional public transit network. Construction of the starter line is on schedule for passengers to begin riding in 2010.
