Mississippi industrial college is treasure of history in black education.
Mississippi industrial college was founded in 1905 at Holly Springs, the Mississippi Industrial College trained young African-Americans for seventy-seven years (1906-1982). Mississippi industrial college was for the literary and industrial training young men and women to furnish their education, and to make of them better citizens.
The preservation will rebuild the famous historical place for its scenic beauty (Currently, it is ugly landscape), rich history in black education, and provide place for developing industrial education back to the area.

Each of us should take the time to look behind us to see those individuals who's shoulders we have stood on allowing us to accomplish great things. If we loss the past our children will not understand those who developed the path we now walk. Save the past so that our children can see the shoulders of who they stand on.

In its day, MIC was a great HBCU and paved the way for many young people to get a college education and to go on to be productive citizens in this great country. Words, nor history reflect, nor can reflect the labor, aspirations, motivation, and love of the founder, Bishop Elias Cottrell, the Seventh Bishop of the then Colored Methodist Episcopal Church (CME), and the people Mississippi Conferences of the Church, that went into the erection of these buildings, and the subsequent emergence of the Mississippi Industrial College Preparatory School (MICPS) and Mississippi Industrial College (MIC). It is very essential to our understanding to realize that at the time of the establishment of MICPS & MIC, that no state supported high schools existed for Negro education in the State of Mississippi. It is also very sad that this property fell into the hands of those who had no clue as to the significances of this property; Bishop Cottrell's and churches' bequest to us.

June 4, 2011, 4:02pm (report abuse)I am in support of this project. Many of us are able to enjoy the richness of our history because someone had the foresight to preserve the icons of the past. We seem to relish tearing down old structures in order to build newer, more functional structures. However, there is nothing quite like touching something that has been touched by those that have gone before you. Many of those may be dead; but the past and the present are inextricably connected by a single shared experience. I am a MS. State graduate with no physical connection to MI. But I have walked over the campus and it fills me with awe and wonder to think about the students that graced its halls. It will sadden me if this campus is allowed to suffer the un-diginified death of neglect. It will sadden me to lose a connection to the past that can never be restored.

This historical site is a national institution and true treasure. MI was an educational power house and we are proud to submit our comments in favor of it's restoration. The college must be revitalized for our children and our childrens' children. This is truly a worthy cause.
