City of Raleigh
Raleigh, NC
Summary
Raleigh and local LED innovator Cree, Inc. partnered on the LED City Program, with Raleigh designated as the nation's first LED City. Along with other communities like Austin, TX, Ann Arbor, MI, Toronto, CA and Tianjin, China, Raleigh has pioneered the use of LED technology in general lighting applications, saving citizens hundreds of thousands of dollars in maintenance and energy costs. This solid-state technology promises to dramatically change the way the nation and the world use lighting. It has the advantage of very low energy costs, no toxic waste products and extreme durability and long life.
