I would like to see this bill pass. It would provide me the opportunity of seeing my local audiologist without having to see my doctor first. Why do I have to pay money to see my doctor just to get a referral to my audiologist?

Kristin

Jason Howe, I agree with you that it would benefit you and the Medicare system if persons were allowed direct access to audiologists.

The main reason for this current situation is the fact that ENTs bill directly to Medicare for the hearing tests that their Audiologists perform. That means that Medicare sees and acknowledges the ENT and not the Audiologist. Audiologists are now required by Medicare to no longer bill under the ENT's provider number as "incident to" and is requiring Audiologisgts to bill Medicare directly under thier own PIN number. This will allow Medicare to see the services that Audiologists provide and give credit to them.

Additionally, everyone can do their part to help this bill pass. Call your representatives, tell them about HR 1665 and S 2352. Ask them to co-sponsor the bill. Write to your representatives. If you can financially support those candidates who are co-sponsors or the American Academy of Audiology PAC.
