I believe a tactile Braille flag should serve as a tribute to blind American veterans, and other blind Americans. We who are sighted would probably think it only fitting that the blind too should be able to see the American flag, and have one that they too can cherish, hold, and honor.

As I understand it, this is not going to cost taxpayers or anyone anything. The Kansas Braille Transcription Institute (KBTI)and the Truxes Company in Illinois, thanks to John Truxes, who was once a POW are paying for everything. In fact, KBTI has agreed to help cover any future maintenance cost associated with the Braille American flag.

Blind Americans, are just as American as sighted Americans. Many of our service men and women lost their sight fighting to protect our country. In Iraq and Afghanistan alone there have been many service members blinded by IED's. They, as well as all blind veterans and other blind Americans deserve to have a Braille flag dedicated to them. America has more than 10 million blind and low vision citizens. More than a million are vets.

It would be nice if more people would support this bill. Our military is daily supporting us.
KUDO's to those elected officials who sponsored this bill, and to Todd Tiahrt for drafting and submitting it. It says a lot about all of them.
