H.R. 1134, The Physical Therapist Student Loan Repayment Eligibility Act of 2007 (6 comments ↓)
H.R. 1134 would amend the Public Health Service Act to provide for the participation of physical therapists in the National Health Service Corps Loan Repayment Program.

Why wouldnt you pass this?? Its great for PT's and patients in rural areas.

Physical therapists are in integral part of the health care team serving rural areas. Unfortunately the reality of student loan repayment prevents many from serving in these areas. I do agree, why wouldn't this pass?

I work with PT clinics all over Arkansas and it is hard to attract PTs to the more rural areas of our state. This could be a great God send for those trying to persuade new therapists to come to their areas.

I don't think most people realize how much a Doctor of Physical Therapy costs. I will end up approximately 120,000 in debt when all is said and done. As a PT student we are unable to work the first two years due to class load and clinical experiences, so there isn't any time to pay down the debt while in school. This would be a great opportunity to entice new grads to serve the underserved areas. I would love to be a rurual PT, but I have to hope that there will be enough salary to live on and pay off student loans! Hope it passes!!!

I must agree, why wouldn't this pass! As a PT practicing in a rural setting I play an integral part in the local health care setting. In addition to acute care and outpatient Physical Therapy I also perform wound care, screens for potential orthopedic referrals to local family practice Physicians, and community education on health and wellness. There is no one else better qualified than a PT to provide these services. The cost of education is staggering and on the rise, PT's deserve the same privileges as other Health Care providers in rural settings.

I am very hopeful this bill passes to help students like my daughter, Lindsey, who wants very much to help people thru pt but will come out of grad school owing over $120,000!!!
