This is a country built upon common ideals and values, not culture. Ideals like liberty, freedom, and justice. Let countries like Germany that value culture over morality require fluency in a language, I will stand behind the Stars and Stripes knowing that it is what is in my heart that is important, not what is on my tounge.

There should only be one language - English - in order for all people to be able to communicate and understand what the other person means. It is important to our country that we all understand each other and the laws of this country. If you want the freedom America offers - learn the language - that is the least you can do.

If i joined a club or an organization i would have to learn there by-laws and abide by them. Anyone coming to America must do the same. The English language must be one of them. If they want somthing and we do not understand them they cannot get what they want. They then would learn English fast because English is the official language in America

I'm sick of pressing one for English. Why can't they press one for Spanish?

There is absolutely no excuse for our voting polls to be conducted in ANYTHING but English. Anyone legally allowed to vote (and yes they have to check ID before you're allowed in) in this country should know enough of the english language to have the questions/answers in english. These are for issues and people who are running our country. If the people voting don't understand english, then they should be assumed to be either irresponsible or a liabilty to our justice system. Things don't always TRANSLATE correctly.

I think that it is good that we are again trying to figure out a national language, but there really is no point in it. People are just going to complain that it is impossing on their freedoms and other people are going to state that every immigrant should learn English because the immigrants had left their country and we (citizens) do not want that country impossed on us or else we would go there. In the end it would just be more of a hassle than a blessing. I wish that when our founding fathers were setting up this country they just made our national language German like they wanted to.
