H.R. 681, The Parental Empowerment Act of 2007 (1 comment ↓)
H.R. 681 would prohibit a State from receiving Federal education funds unless the State has certain policies and procedures regarding the purchase or acquisition of library and classroom-based reference, instructional, and other print materials for use in elementary schools.

It seems to me that the intent of the bill is great! I am concerned that the council will only be able to "recommend" that the materials be limited or not used or whatever. I am concerned that the council seems to have no power to stop the use of any materials. They can only recommend. The council can be completely ignored. Then what have we (as parents)accomplished? We just state that we disagree and they use the materials anyway? Did I read it wrong?
