@How he take this sacred honor and symbol and make a mockery out of it. This is an honor only reserved for civil servants and military. Whitney Houston, though a great icon, does not anywhere near deserve to be honored in this way.

WOW! You are getting more & more screwy every day. (laugh)I tend to agree she doesn't deserve the honor & Christy is obviously pandering to get votes but she was a unbelievable singer & to have such a bitter ending is really sad but if NJ wants do something nice for her & it doesn't hurt anyone what's the big deal? Neither of us live there.(laugh)Wonder what NBNG thinks of it? He is the only affected by it. Her lifestyle was self destructive but she just hurt herself not like Michael Jackson's taste for small boys.(Ugh!)

Anyway since the field has narrowed considerably have you --FINALLY-- decided on who to vote for as President? Don't worry if you don't answer. I fear I'll never pin you down.(laugh)

How's the fight against Scott Walker going? Would be a shame now that you've got recall election & if he ended up winning. I've been reading he's got a fair amount of support and money is pouring in from out of state. One thing I can never seem to accept is the Teabagger's stupid actions when it runs contrary to their own self interest. It's like a black Rpub. After the State Of the Union speech Obama got out of the shower and was drying off when he looked in the mirror and noticed he was white from the neck up to the top of his head.

In a panic and fearing he was turning white and might have to give up his hopes of re-election, he called his doctor and told him of his problem.

The Dr advised him to come to his office immediately. After an exam, the Dr mixed a concoction of brown liquid, gave it to Obama, and told him to drink it all.

Obama drank it and replied, 'That tasted like bullsh*t!'

The Dr replied, 'It was, you were a quart low'.

@ "--now thats screwy! Shes dead and doesnt know what NJ is doing for her and her drug use did and still does influence others directly and indirectly."

There is a lot of idiocy in this culture of ours. The people who have the cameras, microphones and network money supporting them blare way too much respect, attention, snd sappy adulation for "music-artist," comedian, and actor druggies while they're kicking, and then, to boot, keep talking praise for them long after they're dead and gone (e.g., we're still hearing about Michael Jackson). Sets a good example for the young people, doesn't it? (laugh)

Regarding the Whitney Houston thing, Same Old (@Feb. 17, 10:41am)said he wondered what I think of it. Well, I'm not paying much attention. I haven't noticed any flags at half-mast in this area and am not looking anyway. I'm not "affected by it." I don't even know what Whitney Houston sounded like and don't care.

Michelle Obama takes a ski vacation...

February 18, 2012, 4:15pm (report abuse)

ANOTHER VACATION !

Michelle Obama has embarked on a skiing vacation with her daughters in Aspen, Colorado, according to the Aspen Daily News.

The first lady, who just returned last month from 17 days of relaxation in Hawaii, is skiing in Colorado on Presidents’ Day Weekend for the second year in a row. Last year she went to Vail.

Michelle’s decision to ski out West again instead of hitting slopes closer to Washington would seem an inopportune choice for a first lady who is helping her husband campaign on issues of “fairness.”

Yeah in the scheme of things I agree it really isn't that important certainly not to the extent the media is making it out to be. I was never that crazy about her personality she always hit me as a bit sleazy but she has to be one of the top vocalists in several generations. I would put her in the company of Pavarotti, Streisand maybe a few others. I don't know what your tastes in music run but on a good stereo her singing will take your breath away. She was that good! Her singing of the national anthem at the super bowl in the mid 90s was phenomenal, maybe the best it was ever sung.

Anyway on an objective note: Maybe you should listen to a few of her songs it might give you a different perspective.

Unemployment Insurance Cuts in the Latest Deal

…Under the deal, long-term unemployed workers in most states would see their maximum length of benefits restricted, and they may face new drug testing and job retraining requirements to continue receiving benefits…

...These cuts will likely start to take effect while the average duration of unemployment is still at a historically high level. The details are not yet final, but it looks like the maximum length of unemployment insurance benefits will be reduced by 36 weeks in the 33 states that have unemployment rates below mean average and by 26 weeks in the 12 states that have unemployment rates above 9 percent...

I agree but it also screwy that you would get so bothered by it & that was my point. I think this is all NJ Gov. Cristy pandering to voters. I like her music but could care less about her personality or habits. I certainly don't think her life glorified drugs if anything it highlighted the extreme cost of drugs & she paid the price. If people want make her into a saint or fly the flag at half mast let them do it. Read a little history about our founding fathers actions & habits & they pale compared to her. Heroes & saints are just convenient labels but we are all human & we all make mistakes but a voice like hers comes along so rarely so I think her mistakes cost us all something.

@your Omar sock puppet

Have no idea what your talking about?

@maximum length of benefits restricted, and they may face new drug testing and job retraining...

Yeah it amazing how the pattern with Obama keeps repeating itself. I noticed too but I'm just becoming apathetic because nothing changes. Fact is Obama made another weak deal when he had the advantage & could of crafted a stronger bill. Now everyone calls it an Obama victory.(barf!)He's treating the Rpubs with kid gloves to make a deal & we get the short end of the stick so he can preen & tell the country he accomplished something.

Have you also noticed the major news has almost forgot about the long term unemployed & treats the unemployment figure as gold. Job creation is nowhere near historical recovery averages. Overall employment has remained at low levels. New unemployment claims are better but not good. Reminds me of the gambler who only adds up what he wins & not what he looses & then brags. What a farce!

I know many would like, and try to blame Obama for it, and there are many things I blame him for, but the truth is both the Repubs and Dems are blowing those actually causing the price to skyrocket while demand is the lowest ever since the 90s.......WALL STREET, and their making billions of off “speculation”.

I looked on the GASDA site to try to find the story but is not on it yet. I did find this though!

How Goldman Sachs Created the Food Crisis

Don’t blame American appetites, rising oil prices, or genetically modified crops for rising food prices. Wall Street’s at fault for the spiraling cost of food.

Supply and demand certainly matter. But there’s another reason why food across the world has become so expensive: Wall Street greed.

It took the brilliant minds of Goldman Sachs to realize the simple truth that nothing is more valuable than our daily bread. And where there’s value, there’s money to be made.

Over the past couple years I have watched sites both large and small with forums where people talked about “politically incorrect” things the “news” doesn't tell you come under heavy attack from...someone...

It happened to some 99er ones too.

LATOC was one of the early big ones to fall, after trying all...normal things to fix their technical problems...

One really big forum (well over 100k members worldwide), where I help out as a moderator, has been experiencing the same...escalating... “technical” problems for almost two years now. They tried server upgrades, new software, etc, all to no avail...

The Admins are older guys, and didn't want to believe they were being attacked for a long time. “We are doing nothing wrong” I was told....

After membership steadily dropped because the site was “broken” so much they started to ask for help.

I put out a SOS in...certain places....

Those that responded told us who they traced the attacks back to.

Guess who it is...

Bruce Springsteen Talks Occupy Movement, New Album

Bruce Springsteen said this week that his new album Wrecking Ball was inspired by an "angry patriotism" that drew fuel from the Occupy movement.

Speaking to a group of journalists at the Theatre Marigny in Paris, Springsteen described how the financial crisis, income inequality, and other hot-button political issues informed Wrecking Ball, which paints a picture of an America that has failed the working class.

"My work has always been about judging the distance between American reality and the American Dream--how far is that at any given moment," Springsteen said...

In one song, "Easy Money," a down-on-his luck protagonist goes on a robbing spree out of desperation. "He's imitating your guys on Wall Street the only way he knows how," Springsteen said.

Three U.S. lawmakers urged the Federal Trade Commission to grill Google after it admitted secretly tracking millions of people's iPhone and Mac Web browsing.

Reps. Edward Markey, D-Mass., Joe Barton, R-Texas, and Cliff Stearns, R-Fla., said they want to know whether Google's behavior "constitutes a violation" of a privacy settlement Google Inc. and the commission worked out last year.

Google pledged at the time not to "misrepresent" its privacy practices to consumers. The fine for violating the agreement is $16,000 for every violation each day.

Google and three other advertising companies used special computer code that tricks Apple Inc.'s Safari Web-browsing software into letting them monitor users' Internet habits -- even though Safari, the most-widely used smartphone Web browser, is designed to block such tracking by default.

Gallup: Unemployment Climbing Back to 9% for February

COMMENTARY | Within hours of the announcement by the Bureau of Labor Statistics announcement that the unemployment rate had dropped to 8.3 percent, Barack Obama was quick to herald the accomplishment.

However, during the entire week following the Feb. 14 survey by Gallup that said the unemployment rate had climbed back up to nine, the president has been curiously silent.

Immediately following the Bureau of Labor Statistics report that 243,000 new jobs were added in January, Obama credited himself and his policies for their creation. However, the president failed to mention that the Bureau of Labor Statistics had already attributed 70,000 of those jobs -- 42,000 couriers and 28,000 retail workers -- to traditionally temporary work brought about by the holiday season.

While the pretext for the hacking appears to have been an arrest of the wrong people, is seems to have angered Anonymous to the point where they have left an extended message of demands on the Greek website, warning that unless the IMF withdraws from the country and the government resigns, all debts of Greek citizens will be wiped clean.

A month ago, we joked when we said that for Obama to get the unemployment rate to negative by election time, all he has to do is to crush the labor force participation rate to about 55%. Looks like the good folks at the BLS heard us: it appears that the people not in the labor force exploded by an unprecedented record 1.2 million. No, that's not a typo: 1.2 million people dropped out of the labor force in one month!

@people not in the labor force exploded by an unprecedented record 1.2 million.

(laugh) It's an old story that been going on for a some time. It called "cooking the books." What is also a factor is the Rpubs buffoonery in the primary. They've made themselves look so bad Obama feels confident & is moving to the right to capture moderate voters & satisfy his corporate benefactors & is less worried about the people who are dissatisfied on the left.

Obama only helps us when he feels political pressure. No pressure & all you got is a moderate Rpub funded by big money who does little.

Anyway Obama got contraception & the Catholic church to worry about where 95% of US Catholic women practice contraception against church teaching anyway. What's the term institutionalized hypocrisy? (something like that--laugh)I guess the church wants all women to have 15 or more kids by the time they are 40 (laugh)

Netflix doesn't carry it & I never found anyone selling it for a reasonable amount so I'm still waiting. What I remember of it I liked but it was considered the worst sitcom ever. There are a few other sitcoms I want but I don't even remember all the names. I need to track down some of the old TV guides from the 60s. I got Man From U.N.C.L.E. & Get Smart & William Tell & the Superman series too & my favorite, I Dream of Jeannie & WOW did I ever dream of her. For years I hoped I find one of those bottles on the beach.(laugh) Oh a while back you mentioned Bozo the Clown. I met him when I was a kid, my dad knew him also Milky the clown the Twin Pines dairy clown. WOW! Bottled milk delivered to your doorstep. Was that a different world. Just got finished with the news this morning & got depressed.More Rpub candidates all spouting nonsense. A good chunk of what they are saying is absurd, won't work & in a lot of cases would cause real harm.

Can't help but wonder does anybody really care or is it just the media with nothing else to talk about for 24/7. I guess the word is "surreal" like watching a cartoon but it really not a cartoon it's the world we're trapped in & can't get out.

Democracy doesn't work when political goals replaces the goals of the people. When class warfare is a tool to further the aims of the wealthy. When our Govrmnt is a perverted tool of big money & the media their propaganda tool.

Not looking for much just work hard & be rewarded for my efforts. Instead I get a silly twit who wants to be president based on contraception or another who wants to put the supreme court in jail or Paul who wants absolve almost all Gvrmnt so the rich & powerful can do what they want.

You keep repeating this anti-Dem partisan message I am not a fan of the Dems or Obama. I favor Obama over the Rpubs because the Rpubs are so bad.

The Rpubs are selling something that has no chance of working & seems be be nothing more than a concerted effort to further the goals of big money. The Dems say the right things but they just can't seem to accomplish anything. My loyality is to results & empty words like your rant above don't produce results.

Most of the people here have differing views to an extent but we all kind of agree. Voting one party over the other may not be the answer since at the end of the day they end up in the same place & it doesn't benefit us.

As far as the Dems being corrupt that's so naive it's funny. Most politicians in both parties are corrupt!

@How has Obama "divided the country"?

It's almost sad how little understanding some people have of politics & the almost extreme manipulation of the facts that we get.

The country is divided not because of Obama. In fact Obama biggest fault is he is to prone to making bad one sided compromises.

Obama offered to give the Rpubs 9-1 on tax increase vs entitlement cuts but the Rpubs said "No"

It illustrates how extreme the Rpubs are but it also makes me angry that Obama would even offered such a one side deal.

You're wasting your time arguing with a ideologue. He has a philosophy that is is not realistic & since reality is not a consideration how can anything but perfect adherence to his philosophy be enough. Too many are drinking that Kool-aide but like I said before, eventually the greed of big money will overreach & people will react & change will occur. I just hope it sooner than later.

I could write a book as why your conclusion is untrue. We need a rational energy policy & no matter what Obama does congress won't cooperate anyway.

We have so many forms of renewable energy that could be harnessed & almost nothing is being done. ALMOST NOTHING!

The problem is the Oil companies control the politicians. OPEC is a monopoly that controls supply. The politicians funded by Oil companies keep competition from renewable energy from happening & OPEC makes sure the supply remain tight to keep price high & Wall Street also keep the prices even higher through speculation. The supply chain takes 3-6 months to get oil from the well to our car but prices go up almost immediately.(laugh)& anyway most of our imported oil come from Canada. We are being systematically robbed & you're right to the extent Obama should do more or at least something but it's debatable if anyone could pry the greedy Corp from shaking us down.

It's your foot.(laugh) I don't want to antagonize you & I agree Obama has been a big disappointment but you seem to have a personal animosity toward Obama & that is influencing your opinion. Objectively Obama is mediocre unfortunately so much more was expected of him & he hasn't done much but the Rpubs have thwarted him at every turn no matter what the consequences to the country. A strong leader may of accomplished more but with the Rpub opposition it's difficult to lay the blame solely on him. What the Rpubs are pushing is sheer lunacy but as I said it's your foot! (laugh)

What I find real disturbing is extreme nature of the Rpubs. Wisc is a good example. The right of the minority doesn't seem to enter into the question & they simply go for the throat & they don't care who they hurt.

I think the congress & the lobbyists are more the problem. After Bernie Sanders I can't name one senator who I respect. Can you?

Considering the Network as the radar detector of the Multitude

...The difference between Twitter feeds about speed traps and Wikileaks dumps of the government's classified interoffice memoranda is just one of degree. Without secrets, government must either persuade the populace of its legitimacy, or abandon legitimacy for force of arms. We can expect a decade or two of efforts by governments and other powers (corporations, cartels, and perhaps copyright holders) to try to use law (and force) to prevent the popular use of the network to expose institutional secrets, and it seems certain they will all inevitably fail. Trying to control the use of communications networks is like trying to exterminate the rhizome under your lawn. (Ironic, perhaps, that a technology designed by the military-industrial complex to ensure viable communications in the event of nuclear attack ends up appropriated by the people and able to withstand attack by its creator.) …

Oh...and the recipes have been a little lacking here lately :)

Spinach Mother of Christ

by George Leonard Herter

The Virgin Mary, Mother of Christ was very fond of spinach. This is a well-known fact in Nazareth today as it was 19 centuries ago. Her favorite music was that of the crude bagpipes of that time, and this is also a well-known fact.

Her recipe for preparing spinach spread with Christianity throughout Europe.

On the eve of Christ’s birth in the cave that was called a stable, her only meal was spinach.

The early European immigrants from Germany, France, and Italy nearly all brought this recipe with them. This is a recipe for people who like a mild garlic flavor, it definitely is not for people who do not like some garlic.

This recipe cannot be made from canned spinach. Canned spinach in no way resembles fresh or frozen spinach and in my opinion is fit for neither man or beast.

Patriots

(logged-in user) February 29, 2012, 6:39am (report abuse)

Take six quarts of fresh spinach and carefully remove the heavy stems. If you use frozen spinach take two boxes. Boil the fresh spinach five minutes – no more. If you boil spinach too much it completely loses its original taste. If you use frozen spinach place it in boiling water. With a fork break up the frozen blocks as soon as possible. After the blocks are broken up and the spinach loose boil it for 1 or 2 minutes – no more or it is worthless. Take and put three heaping teaspoons of butter in a frying pan and melt it. Chop up four cloves of garlic and put them into the melted butter. Fry them with medium or low heat until slightly brown. Frying the garlic in butter entirely changes its odor and flavor making it quite mild. Take the drained spinach and mix it in the butter and fried garlic. Salt and pepper to taste. Originally the spinach was pestled to a puree. Today take your food mill and pass the spinach through it making a puree.

Patriots

(logged-in user) February 29, 2012, 6:40am (report abuse)

Serve as a main dish with bread and butter or as a vegetable with a regular meal.

Today in Belgium and Germany a little nutmeg is sprinkled over the top of the puree. This however was not in the original recipe.
