April 26, 2009, 7:39pm (report abuse)The Government shouldn't ever take over any segment of the private sector. Stop and think about it. For every Dollar collected from tax-payers, an entire governmental department has to be paid for and government payrolls met, before whatever remains of that dollar can be spent on the sick person who needs it.
In every nation that has tried nationalized health care, their rich citizens now come to the United States for treatment. If our Government gets more involved with the health care system than they already are, each citizen will have to pay for health care costs and the cost of having government agencies administer those costs. The rich around the world will hire private doctors and hospitals to take care of them, and average American Citizens will be left with underfunded and poorly run health care.
Just look at the "Bailouts" started under the Bush administration and augmented by the Obama administration. They can't even tell tax payer where our money has gone!

June 10, 2009, 3:45pm (report abuse)Fear of government is irrational. We the people make the government we want.
We pay for the health insurance of all employer-paid parties through the costs passed through to consumers of products and services in this country. It doesn't matter how healthcare is paid for but, that we are all covered.
Personally, I think free market insurance has failed most of us and certainly 46 million un-insured.
If employers don't have to pay for insurance they can be more competitive globally.
What people don't realize is the profits of insurance companies are a significant contributing factor to our healthcare costs. Remove the profit motive and the costs go down.

July 29, 2009, 1:54pm (report abuse)My husband and I are hardworking small business owners with children. My husband is a 20 year veteran of the Reserves. There is NO affordable comprehensive health insurance available. Our income puts us just slightly above the cut off for our state health care program for children. In the past we have paid for $10K deductible health insurance (all we could afford) and still had to budget several hundred dollars per month for all of the out of pocket costs(which is EVERYTHING up to the $10K). We don't smoke or drink. It's ridiculous that my children can't receive the basic care they deserve. Costs are out of control, especially since we are very healthy individuals. We pray every night that no one will get sick. What should we think about a country that doesn't even care for it's veterans or children's health?
I lived and worked in Austria and utilized their universal care system. It was wonderful. The people I knew wouldn't dream of coming to the US for care. That is a total MYTH.
