Yet Another Opportunity for Foul-Mouthed Rants!

Another bill to extend unemployment benefits was introduced yesterday. The text of the bill isn’t available yet, so I can’t tell you how long it would extend them for. The bill is H.R. 3756. What’s this about foul-mouthed rants? The ...

A few updates:
Just got another call from NELP, there was a big meeting this morning regarding the bill, she said that the republicans keep saying they are going to introduce a new ammendement. She also said that basically they are holding this up to get more floor time for their agenda on healthcare. With each ammendment they get 30 hours of floor time, they want that floor time for healthcare.

She said keep making noise and calling attention to the situation.

Also at their meeting the subject of Noodles4Nothing was raised and they are going to help get the information out there to encourage people to send their noodles and stories.

H.R. 3548 – Web page overload!
Posted by Jim Harper, October 14, 2009 at 4:11 pm

For the last hour-and-a-half or so, the comment function has been out of commission for H.R. 3548.

As I stepped out to a meeting, I noticed that the site was down, so I put my Web/database team on the case. They determined that traffic on H.R. 3548 was too high for our servers to handle and set it so that we could fulfill your requests to view the page without taking down the whole site. To do this, they disabled the comment function.

It’s now back up. I’ll go read all the cards and letters you sent me in the meantime.

I want each and every one of you to know that it wasn’t personal and it didn’t have anything to do with H.R. 3548—I mean, other than your interest in it.

We’re a site that runs on a shoestring budget and when we have to much success, it can result in failure. Carry on! And please accept our apologies for the outage.

OK, THIS IS WHAT IS FOR SURE.

THE 10/14 OPENCONGRESS.ORG BLOG/NEWS REPORT IS THERE AND READABLE.

THERE IS NOT ANY VERIFIABLE SOURCE FOR THE ALLEGED "IT WILL BE ON THE FLOOR TONIGHT COMMENTS"

NELP HAS NO REFERENCE ON THERE SITE OF THE ALLEGED 6 AMMENDMENTS AND THAT WAS NOT BACKED UP BY Frank Lautenberg's office.

IN A CALL TO REIDS OFFICE I WAS ON HOLD FOR 7 MINUTES 38 SECONDS. THE PERSON THAT ANSWERED THE PHONE WAS CANDID WITH ME. I ASKED ABOUT THE BILL. THEY STATED THAT THEY ARE UNCERTAIN OF THE STATUS BUT THAT IT WAS BROUGHT TO THE FLOOR TWICE AND WOULD BE BROUGHT TO THE FLOOR AGAIN. I ASKED ABOUT THE VOLUME OF CALLS THEY ARE GETTING AND HE STATED THAT THEY ARE BEING BOMBARDED. I ASKED IF HE THOUGH THAT THE BILL WOULD MAKE IT TONIGHT HE STATED NO HE COULD NOT. HE WOULD NOT GIVE HIS NAME.

They are always on break or on vacation. I wish they cared more about what the people who cannot find a job and have run out of unemployment benefits so maybe they would get this bill passed. Fact Check:

October 14, 2009, 7:09pm (report abuse)

Senator Tom Coburn (R) Oklahoma said he didn't want to let the unemployment extension be paid by our grandchildren. That is a DIRECT and BLATANT LIE.

The bill states CLEARLY that the money would come from the extension of the $14 a year surcharge, NOT from taxes.
