one of the few things our govt should be involved in is keeping our military men and women trained, educated and our military machine ready to defend freedom from dictators and tyrants. And as of now oil makes the world go round, so a more stable middle east is a great priority. IMHO

Psst. Hey Mr. President, make everyone who wants healthcare coverage commit to joining the military and every Republican, except that loon Ron Paul, will praise you. (By their standards you could have thrown every dollar you are going to spend on healthcare into the corporate socialist DOD/Iraq war swindle and American conservatives would have applauded you as a hero.)

Hey, this bill will be signed by the president by the end of October. Good now all of chapter 61 retirees will get their earned retired pay.

This is a good thing. It is very commendable to include those individuals for a retirement benefit that were injured in the line of duty that they wanted to finish in order to recieve a retirement. Those 61s now get what they do deserve. It's time to salute those individuals. They did all they could so that we could continue. That is all....

What version is going to be passed?

SFC. Pinga

October 16, 2009, 12:53pm (report abuse)

I don't know what version, but the one that passed the senate is this one.

To authorize appropriations for fiscal year 2010 for military activities of the Department of Defense, for military construction, and for defense activities of the Department of Energy, to prescribe military personnel strengths for such fiscal year, to provide special pays and allowances to certain members of the Armed Forces, expand concurrent receipt of military retirement and VA disability benefits to disabled military retirees, and for other purposes.

This one passed the senate now it has to be signed by the President Obama.

I just spoke to an aid to Sen. Nelson, and he told me that the concurrent receipt provision had not passed.

Fightergator, concurrent receipt passed the senate in July 22,2009.

It is a shame. Not finding $162 Million for the one year expansion of the Concurrent Receipt for those at 100%. It is a great fantastic powerful leap of immaculate mental prowness of intelligence those to find enough funds to send a onetime payment of $250.00 to every Social Security recipients. That's just about 57 Million. So, that is about what? 14 BIL?? Yes I can see why there was no offset found. Is anyone else reading the HR 2467 bill? Is there anything that Obama will not like and Veto it? Was is a Campaign promise or statement to the people that he said that Concurrent reciept was to be something that needed to be done? That it was something to the effect that they deserve it and he was going to make sure that they( Chapter 61 veterans) were going to be taken care of? Maybe I was dreaming that during the whole Presidential promise phrasing for votes. Somebody in authority out there over this bill and legistration please get this straight for me!

Does anyone knows if President Obama

will push for concurrent receipt of retired and disability pay for veterans in order to sing H.R. 2647?

ovyguzman

(logged-in user) October 20, 2009, 4:49pm (report abuse)

For you guys that are tracking HR 2647 I want to let you now that the concurrent retired and disable benefit was taking out of the bill. I got the info from Mr Rick Maze (staff writer for the Army Times publishing Company) and according to him the Senate can either pass or reject it but without changes. If they reject the bill they will have to start over. The Congress has failed once again the veterans. Too bad.

Yeah. I saw they gave it to us for voting favors but now no favors for the DisVets again. SFC Pinga up there thinks he knows something going on. I await his return with answers for us. I feel that P.Obama has his hands full right now to not notice us with his earlier notion of wanting the concurrent retired and disability pay. ......that is all....

Is by the middle of the page when you scroll down.

This is what you find

Subtitle C: Concurrent Receipt of Military Retired Pay and Veterans' Disability Compensation - (Sec. 121) Extends through 2013 eligibility for the concurrent receipt of military retired pay and veterans' disability compensation for veterans who were retired or separated due to physical disability, regardless of their disability rating or years of service.

Is still there, and it hasn't changed.

Please enlighten me because when I check H R 2647 there are 5 versions and I checked the latest one and still could not find the concurrent receipt section. Any help will be appreciated.

Is still in the bill, just copy and paste the link that is there, is near the ending as I pasted it.

There is lots of stuff before it, just look for it patiently. Its there you'll find it. It has not been stripped from h.r.2647. Look at your bar to the right when your are scrolling down, it should be in the middle before you see it.

Disable vets got an increased in their VA compensation by 5.8%. Check out the S.407. It was signed by President Obama in July 30, 2009.

2010 National Defense Authorization Act

10/12/09 – The 2010 NDAA Conference Report was passed by the House, with Senate action expected within the week. The bill includes several important NAUS-supported provisions, but we also lost the battle on a couple key issues as well.

Left Out:

President Obama’s request for Concurrent Receipt of both VA disability pay and military retired pay for medically retired (Chapter 61) retirees. This was especially surprising as the House had included partial funding for at least 9 months for the most catastrophically injured, but the Senate would not agree to the measure.

actually SFC Pinga, that S.407 was signed by the President in Jun 30, 2009.

October 26, 2009, 2:00pm (report abuse)

Sorry to be the one to bring bad news but Vets have been screwed over again from the top down. Also, S. 407 doesn't mean a thing since it is tied to the CPI (no increase). Funny how they pass a law that they know is NEVER going to happen.

JLGO

October 26, 2009, 2:20pm (report abuse)

Yeah, it is stupid how they pass a law to increase but then again no increase.

So, SFC P, this is what we get for what we wait for. This is taken from the enrolled bill text for HR 2647 that is next to be sign by the president. It pretty much says: "Sorry, not this time.......we'll definately use for a bargining chip next go around. Oh but we thank you for the opportunity for us to use your plight for our gains." the following is the text:

HR 2647 SEC. 664. SENSE OF CONGRESS REGARDING SUPPORT FOR COMPENSATION,

RETIREMENT, AND OTHER MILITARY PERSONNEL

PROGRAMS.

It is the sense of Congress that members of the Armed Forces

and their families and survivors and military retirees deserve

ongoing recognition and support for their service and sacrifices

on behalf of the United States, and Congress will continue to

be vigilant in identifying appropriate direct spending offsets that

can be used to address shortcomings within those military personnel

programs that incur mandatory spending obligations.

I guess that is all....

Once again the vets get screwed. SFC P maybe still crosing his fingers that something might happen. We never know what might happen between now, and January 2010. I just hope that the goverment doesn't give anymore any to our money to the auto manufactures so they could go and buy their own cars.

I am still waiting for something to happen.

What happened to he piece affecting calculations of CSRS employees who work part-time

late in their careers?

I would like to know if this bill will allow those DOD civilians working overseas the locality pay that all the workers in the US get. I was under the impression that this "overseas locality pay" would be implemented over a 3 year period. The first year a DOD civilian working overseas would get 33 percent of the "Rest of the US" locality pay and then in FY11 it would go to 67 percent and the be 100 percent in FY12. Is this true?

Ret..SFC Carl Staley

June 29, 2010, 4:38pm (report abuse)

So I take it we are not going to get our retirement again because pork barrel spending is more important then our vets thats severed in the military and got injured or sick for there country, but didn't get to reach there 20 years. Our Vets deserve everything our nation can give them for what they have went though and endure. Some of us lost are careers because of a operation that went bad.
