Whoever wrote "Well whoopie-----" is more likely a coward that sits back an let other put their life on the line. I saw a cartoon in the newspaper that went somethinglike this- two hippies talking, boyfriend and girlfriend - the man says to the girl you go down to the welfare and pick-up our welfare check and I will go to the free clinic and pick upmy free glassses and then we can meet in front of the capitol building to demonstrate against the sticking establishment. There is alot of free loaders in this country. Mr. Whoopie is probably one of them.

"I AM WHOLEHEARDTLY FOR THIS BILL" means diddly squat. There won't be any COLA for veterans this year. Your "support" means $hit.

I hope that they stop supporting the criminals and the lazy and start helping us out some more. Im not saying anything bad about the V.A. I just dont undrestand why the vets just get disregarded. Why should we support more welfare money for this group? There is no good reason to do so. They are already being compensated at a far higher rate than is justified.

I hope everyone here understands this is an empty gesture. The CPI has not risen this year and any increase is tied directly to that factor. Congress can pass this bill and claim they are pro veteran knowing full well there will be no increase. Same old smoke and mirrors politics aimed at buying the votes of gullible citizens.

Oxymoron Personified

August 14, 2010, 1:15pm (report abuse)

One wonders why it seems necessary for AndyJohnson with multiple alias' (like CRT and others in light blue and black) to consistently, and with absolute reckless abandon call good people names like "Gomer" ad infinitum. He seems to find some compelling pleasure in doing this all while repudiating others who engage in the same childish behavior.

Interesting fellow. Bent, but interesting.

It's a wonder that good honorable veterans continue to fight this smoke and mirrors juvenile here and on other threads. It serves simply to fuel his perverse obsession to libel honest veterans and others.

***

August 15, 2010, 9:51am (report abuse)

And just where are these "good honorable veterans" you speak of here? All I see are a bunch of scammers trying to get something they don't deserve. The cost-of-living has not risen to the point that an increase would be appropriate. In fact it remains lower than when the last increase was given. And yet these welfare whiners continue to cry for more. Not what I call "good" or " honorable".

VOTE NO ON THIS BILL!!!

A Democratic senator is introducing legislation for a bailout of troubled union pension funds. If passed, the bill could put another $165 billion in liabilities on the shoulders of American taxpayers.

The bill, which would put the Pension Benefit Guarantee Corporation behind struggling pensions for union workers, is being introduced by Senator Bob Casey, (D-Pa.), who says it will save jobs and help people

Sen. Robert Casey (D., Pa.) and Rep. Earl Pomeroy (D., N.D.) are pushing legislation that would commit taxpayers’ dollars to bailing out the Teamsters’ retirement pension fund.

All of you are ignorant and are probably cowards too. Most disabled veterans out there are successful and Brave. So you choose to assume all are druggies, drunks and homeless. All of you are probably receiving unemployment or are on welfare. I guess stereo-typing is fair in this matter.

It really saddens me to see that so many men and women who fought for our country, and may have become disabled are being compared to "welfare bums." There are problems with society so how about looking at tax breaks for the elite instead of picking on those who served our country. This is pathetic. Veterans deserve a hell of a lot more than they get.

Americans would NOT have the freedom given to them without the selfless and patriotic sacrifices of military Veterans. Disability for these patriots is NOT welfare - it is the OPPOSITE of welfare!!! One is earned and the other is given. If YOU can't figure out the difference between the two, YOU need an education!!!

I love this country, and love the fact I was given the pleasure to serve -voluntarily. I don't need your booze/beer/alcohol or drugs. Never have. I for one served 23 years to include deployments to Iraq, and I work full time. I am not crying for handouts. I believe that there are many like me that barley got a thank you and have to put up the voice of those that were not smart enough to pass the ASVAB to join. You are probably upset because you think your welfare check of unemployment checks will be cut to fund this. I think it is hilarious that you uninformed people think that veterans are nothing more than drunks or drug addicts. I guess that is easier to believe than looking at your own flaws. You were probly too fat or too dumb to get into the military so you cast untrue shadows on those who served their country proudly. It never ceases to amaze me how those we have protected can say such ridiculous things about the United States Service members. Shame on all of you. BTW, I care nothing about your uneducated opinions.

The Old Medic

September 26, 2010, 11:48pm (report abuse)

Disabled veterans MUST show that their disability is directly related to their military service. They have to be able to show that their condition began while on active duty, and that they meet the requirements for a disability as established by law.

These men and women are NOT faker, nor are they on welfare. By definition, they went into the service of their country in good health, and came out in somewhat less health.

They deserve a LOT more than they receive. Each and every one of them agreed to accept conditions that amount to virtual slavery, and to quite literally allow the government to take any portion of their health up to and including death.

Many of the older veterans were drafted into the military. This includes ALL branches of service, all of them have had draftees at some points between 1940 and 1976.

Those that would deny those people compensation for the disabilities that they have suffered, are neither patriots, nor do they have ANY regard for their country.

They are the same people who want to open the borders, stop death row for the murderers, and give the lazy sit on their @$$ and blame society welfare moochers. Veterans put their life on the line to protect the WORLD. I’m not saying firefighters and police don’t do the same. But I live in a state “California” where the C.H.P. can retire with 90% of their base pay. REALLY!!!! 90%!!!!, So let’s look over the past 60 years and compare the amount of police to veterans that have died for their country. That has lost arms and legs for their country. Then look at you liberal fu(k!^g f@gs sitting there dictating who deserves what. I know I have a great idea forget the veterans and give the money to the legal anchor baby Mexicans. My beef is the worthless former spouse who probably disrespected his/her Marine; left him/her high & dry may benefit financially from this. No verbage about former spouses but they always come out winners with retiree pay. Hope I'm worried needlessly for hard working, well deserving disabled vets of THE USA. & by the way when was the last time you were called by the Army asking for $$ to support children of Vets? NEVER. These men & women are subject to pay as dictated by the whim of whomever is our President at the time. Not saying public servants don't deserve our respect/support, but it's called TAXES & INSURANCE. They have it & workman's comp. Vets have insurance & our taxes pay their salary, but THIS is THEIR workman's comp. Get it "For All Those Welfare Mongers"?

How many firemen or policemen get anywhere from $1100 to over $2300 tax free every month to pay for their food and housing on top of their regular pay? Take a look at the current military pay scales and see what an E-5 with six years draws. And don't forget hazardous duty pay, tax exemptions for those in the combat theaters.

All the whining in the world can't hide the fact that today's military is well paid when compared to firemen and police.

It's always just "GIMME GIMME GIMME"!!!!!

For all you that think that the military is well paid, wakeup. Again does the police and firemen get to go home to their family every night? Yep sure do. Soldiers risk their lives for the love of country and a secured future. So if you think anyone is getting a free ride try again. Please take trip to Ft Sam Houston, Tx and visit with these folks that have no legs/arms and skin burnt beyond repair and watch them hold their heads high and proud. So if you complain about the pay and benefits please sign up and live a life of a soldier. 20 years of this lifestyle wears you down quick if you walk out with out injuries. Yes it is volunter but no comparison to any civilian job around. Soldiers miss everyday life as they protect and serve and with little to no complaints when they spend 18 months in a war zone and see their family for two weeks. Relook at your comments, better yet signup, we sure can you use.

And the guys in the police department nect door are even in more danger. If you believe you are something special Iyou should think again.

The staff sergeant with 6 years gets paid more than I do and gets all that extra just for being there.

And don't even get me started on the military straphangers who never go anywhere near harm. Even with the uptempo there were still many who never left the states.

So stick your silly military elitism in your ass.

For someone who gave 10 years of service and is disabled and unable to work I say "Screw You All!". 2 tours in the box gave me the perspective that you would not even be able to leave comments such as these without the service of all the men in women in uniform. You leave in a country with freedom because of our service. Remember That! Go serve, even 2 years, then come back and talk the talk.

I lost a lot during my 10 year service, and to those who think we are over paid. You only get that extra pay and tax free when you go to combat. Which is no cake walk. For those who think some even have it easy over there, tell that to the soldier who never left the camp and lost his life to a motar attack on the way to by soap. Cause I don't think we have daily motar attacks here in the States, unless something happened last night. We live with the same problems over there as over here expect someone is trying to blow us up everyday. Remember we gave you freedom, act like you respect it!

What in the world? We are pissing on each other for nothing. The truth is all that give that life for this country should be compensated...whether it is a firemen, policemen or servicemen. Our beef is not against each other, but the ones who are in position to do the right thing. I had no idea the military (me) was hated so much. I have never done drugs, alcohol, etc. I am 30% disabled with a lung disease I did not have when I came in...that can effect other organs. I retired along with my husband ater 20 years. I am highly educated (almost 5 degrees to be exact)and work and volunteer as much as possible. I am no more a loser (military) than I believe you are...even with your misconceptions. How heartless can you be towards disabled vets, and their families? If you worked for a civilian company and you got a lung disease from it, would you not want to be compensated for it? Not to mention the mental stress from the duties of firemen, policemen or servicemen.?????????

The Truth

The people in here talking bad about disabled veterans are not

true americans. They are complaining because they never had the smarts are guts to serve this great country of ours. If you have not served keep your comments to yourself and respect all service men and women who have served.

I find it so sad to read so many negative messages about welfare and handout with regards to veterans. And other comments speaking to how well the military is paid how they are given so much. But as most people know, everything comes at a price. Did the naysayers know that the low enlisted ranks are paid so little that they actually do qualify for welfare or government assistance? That like with any job the perks come with time? When was the last time in the civilian world were you called at 3:30 in the morning to report for a random Urinalysis? Or to oversee one for the next 16 hours without overtime or time and a half. How often are civilians taped for waist measurements and asked to perform their run, push-ups, sit-ups, all before 6:30 in the morning and then report for a full day of duty? How many civilians are given the line that the military did not issue you a family therefore family concerns are not the military's concerns.

Every citizen faces their own version of these problems. Pettiness and anger gets us nowhere. You speak of drugs and booze and hippies, but of what generation do you speak? There is a whole new generation of Veteran emerging. We are not the ones who fought in Vietnam, or the Korean War. There are many of us that did not fight. There are many of us who served diligently in old buildings, with hazardous materials, explosives, fire arms, etc, that developed breathing problems, cancer, nerve problems, vision problems, pain, arthritis, you name it, its probably been contracted. Imagine, that is just from those who were in relatively "safe" jobs. Those who see action suffer much worse. You begrudge us what the government wishes to grant us, but you enjoy the freedom to rant and rave about the injustice of it all. You criticize us about our "booze, cigarettes, and drugs" and yet don't even look in the mirror to realize that you cast judgment on those you don't know.

You sum us up as useless, but use us up when you feel you liberties and freedoms have been or are being threatened. You say we complain, whine and complain, "gimme, gimme, gimme", I ask you this? Have not those like you, those who think we are unworthy of consideration, those who think we are less because we wear Battle Dress Uniforms on a daily basis and Combat boots, asked the same of us? GIMME your time, GIMME your children, GIMME your money, GIMME your freedom, GIMME YOUR LIFE!

As a disabled Vet I am currently a firefighter all your comments are silly and attacking each other for no reason. Yes did I tear both achilles in combat.... Can I still fight fires even though I'm broke yes.... If you think I'm scamming tell that to my Docs that with the MRIs. Can I still hump a scott around and fight fire with the best of them you betcha. I will say that my life as a military member was harder than my life as a fire fighter for several reasons lets see the bullets, explosives, fires, and traps. Yes we have to deal with everything over there. Over here my wife and kids visit me at work and if you don't see them thats your fault. I can keep going with this but the ignorance is pissing me off beacuse y'all are acting like a bunch of children Mikey is getting this and I want it.

To all those who think when someone retires from the military they go to the islands and sit on their stack of gold bars and drink margaritas all day get real. You probably seen that report on how much the military is COMPENSATED for their time. These are free medical, if you can go to the doctor, free dental if you are allowed the time to go,free on post housing wich they take back your BAQ if you can get on post housing, and oh yes its not tax free till you go to war.Been there done that and I challenge those of you who talk bad about my brothers and sisters who serve proudly to raise your right hand and serve and you will see what we go through. The decision for this bill is on the presidents desk and he will decide to sign or not. Only him

Each of us picked our career path, with the exception of those of us who were drafted. I served proudly for 26 years, 14 of them in places I did not want to be. I am a Vietnam vet that has never used illegal drugs, no drinking problem, etc.. I agree all the first responders. police, fire and paramedics are underpaid and mostly unappreciated. Be thankful for the wonderful country we have and all those who serve, all of them. Hopefully our elected President will sign the bill, it won't change my opinion of him one way or the other.

My Fellow Vets

We need more welfare. We need to be given more money even though we don't deserve it. Just how will we buy our booze and drugs unless they give us more money. Make sure you tell everyone to give us more so we can get down to the liquor store and buy more booze.

It's getting harder and harder to beg for a drink at the bar because everyone is getting tired of listeneing to me whine and cry about how I did it all for them and how I'm now hurting because of my service.

Please help me get some booze or better yet some drugs. Thank you.

Where the hell am i? Is this America? Who the hell gave you people the right to speak your mind?

It seems to me that the only people taking and taking are the ones who mooch on the selfless acts of the majority of Vets, then turn around and spit in their face.

This is not right, Vets deserve help. Injuries are sometimes so severe that these vets cant work to support their families.

Spend some time in a fire fight or driving through hundreds of corpses in the name of Freedom.

I served 30 years retired an E8 and 60% disable (2 back surgeries’ and 1 shoulder) I hold another job that doesn’t pay half of what I once made (after 30 years). It’s sad seeing everyone trying to cut the other one down for their job field. Seams to me that most of us on here are the ones in position that serves (or served) this country and cities (not those smart mouth comments for the peanut gallery). Why fight each other, why not fight those that gives themselves raise each year and holds us back. I say Military, Civil Service and anyone else that is in harms way get a decent pay package. Why should all the politicians and even those in sports get paid so much? It burns me to see Congress getting 20% pay raises (like they need it)or some one playing sports getting millions (and then they strike or hold out for more) and those serving this country or local cities get just enough to get by on and that’s if both parents are working. So let’s fighting for each other...

Is this bill anything out of the ordinary? If I am understanding it correctly, this is a standard COLA.

How would this increase payments at all in this economy? Is there a real advantage to the veteran? What if cost of living goes down? Will they take money away?

My regards to all who have served, and those who keep up the support at home.

Same old whine.

"its the rest of us on here that keep you safe"

Perhaps you would get more support if that were true. Just what have any of you done to "protect" us lately? Not one damn thing. With all you so-called military heores out there they still managed to attack us and kill thousands.

Yeah, sure, real protection there. *SSHOLES!

I read most of the messages and am sadly disappointed by the lack of respect shown by some to others. Either way after further research I.e. the dab homepage this is sadly a hoax. Hope that makes all the people who were so disrespectful on here feel much better....
