April 18, 2009, 9:29pm (report abuse)I think I can spare a penny. It's sad to see just how prejudiced our country really is.... STILL. The Civil Rights era was very important to America... not just Black America, but ALL OF AMERICA! This country would be pretty crappy if not for the contributions of African Americans. Not to say that a lot of things invented by African Americans could not have been invented by anyone else, but what if they weren't? Would you really want to deal with a stop sign at every intersection? Or change your light bulbs every day or every other day? I'm glad I grew up in a family that embraces all American history, and not just the history presented in school textbooks. Thank God for the ability to self-educate.
