My Aunt turns 90 this April. She is virtually deaf, and - unfortunately - lives almost entirely off of social security. She desperately needs a hearing aid, and cannot afford the almost $5,000 needed to buy one (her situation is even worse due to the fact that her macular degeneration has imparied her sight to the point that she cannot use a hearing aid that requires recharging of batteries (she lives alone and can't see the batteries). I was trying to find out if medicare covers hearing aids, and was astounded to see they are excluded. Implants are ok; but not far less expensive devices: what a joke. It would seem that for a civilized country, quality of life, including the ability to see and hear, would be of paramount importance. What possible reason could there be for voting against this bill (especially in light of all the other pork that's being approved as part of the stimulus package)?

I am hard of hearing and have problem getting one due of the cost. Why is the hearing aid benefit is not included with medicare when it is included with other federal benefits. I don't think this bill will go through this time under democrat controlled congress. This bill has brought up before. Gus Bilirakis (R-FL) brought up this bill. Why waste your time going to state vocational rehabilitation with all the paperwork when we can just use the insurance. There is time limit to buy hearing aids is every three years. I don't plan to buy every three years and hearing aids last longer than that.

Why in America are hearing aids not covered for the elderly? This is ridiculous.
