Detailed Summary

Emergency Medic Transition (EMT) Act of 2009 - Amends the Public Health Service Act to direct the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) to award grants to state entities with jurisdiction over emergency medical personnel to provide for the expedited training and licensing, as emergency medical technicians, of veterans who received training as such a technician while serving in the Armed Forces.

Permits the use of grant funds to: (1) recruit such veterans; (2) provide to such veterans required course work and training that take into account training they received as members of the Armed Forces to enable them to satisfy emergency medical services personnel certification requirements in the civilian sector; and (3) reimburse individuals for the costs of receiving certification and licensing from the appropriate state entity pursuant to the program.

Authorizes an eligible entity to contract with an institution of higher education or other educational institution certified to provide training to emergency medical personnel for purposes of providing training under this Act if such institution has developed a suitable curriculum.

Sets forth provisions regarding proof of veteran eligibility. Directs an eligible entity to give priority to providing training to individuals who will serve as emergency medical technicians in areas that provide a high volume of emergency medical services and trauma care within the state in which the entity is located.
