This bill will make an overwhelming impact on the Vocational Rehabilitation success ratio. Having additional subsistence resources can make or break a disabled veteran’s mission. The current subsistence allowance barely provides enough for rent in many areas much less the veteran’s utility costs, transportation costs, various insurance costs and not to mention basic human sustenance costs. If the veteran has a family, his problem begins to spiral. The stress associated with putting bread on the table, provide health care, transportation, child care, and the multitude other potentialities can be utterly overwhelming. Now throw in the demands of attending college full time. The water continues to rise with nothing in site but sharks. Many soldiers will be forced to give up and hopefully be able to swim to shore without drowning. We need to make this happen for the veteran and America. Both will benefit.

This has got to be better than the 5 dollar rais I got for october 2009. I guess I can afford an extra loaf of bread to feed my two children.

This needs to be passed ASAP! It's ridiculous the payment that the new GI bill gives in comparison to Chapter 31. Why was it not increased before???

Many Disabled Veterans are encouraged to take thier disability pay and go away. I for one think I still have a lot to offer. This subsistance is the foundation for the rehabilitation. Retraining can be very hard for older vets especially dealing with a disability and college is more than a full time job. Veterans need this bill now. Many disabled vets don't have the option to reenlist and must make it in the worst and most competitive economy since the great depression. Training full time is just not possible for many with the current subsistance amounts. Disability pay, even at 100%, will barely get a family of four a mobile home these days. Utility prices and cost of living has still not come down to affordable levels. Disabled Veterans want to work! Give us the tools to do so.

I am a chapter 31 recipient and this increase would make a huge difference for my family. At this point I have had to continue to work while attending college full time. If this was to increase I could focus on school and stop working. My family suffers because I go to school, work and try to run a home all the while my spouse is serving our country in Iraq.
