H.R. 1751 would amend the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 to permit States to determine State residency for higher education purposes and to authorize the cancellation of removal and adjustment of status of certain alien students who are long-term United States residents and who entered the United States as children.

April 21, 2009, 6:05pm (report abuse)The Dream Act would be a boon for Arizona. We have students in our schools who have lived here most of their lives, received good grades, and contributed to the community are assets. We need their intelligence and energy. Currently they are unable to find work, drive, or receive affordable education after high school. The Dream Act will provide the opportunity for these students to truly contribute to America. These students will be our teachers, our nurses, our engineers and our neighbors. These students are motivated to prove their worth. They are worth the investment. I encourage you to allow them their dreams.

May 22, 2009, 8:27am (report abuse)They say that "america" is "the free country". Well just how free is it that these people come here to find a better life and then get shut down by the government its self? Imagine the US with out all these immigrant workers? If they all went back to there countries the US would for sure be in trouble, economically saying so. Im not only saying this as a Mexican, but as a US born Citizen as well!

July 21, 2009, 9:44pm (report abuse)This is going to change my life. I could go on and list a number of reasons as to why. So to make the long Story short, this is going to give me a chance at independence and the chance to become something in this life. This is all i ask for .. nothing more .. nothing less. Give me the chance to work my ass off and go somewhere. Im not asking for a handout Im asking for a start.

But, immigrants who come to this country illegally, and bring children, are damning their children to a life of hardship and division.
The fact that there is a Dream Act proposed is testimony that the children, who are also deemed here illegally, are condemned to a denial of rights they were misled to believe they earned.
The Dream Act is Amnesty for the illegal residing children of illegal immigrants. These students should hold their parents accountable for the position they are in, and no one else.

April 13, 2010, 11:15am (report abuse)I agree with MisterCharles, as a child who was brought here by my parents against my will. I never planned to live this sort of life, afraid and with my dreams shut down. I do blame my parents because of their ignorance to the american laws, because i had a chance to receive a student visa (but they never applied). The reality is that now they can only live with guilt but it still doesn't solve my situation. I never knew i was illegal, i graduated high school with honors and when i applied for college i learned the difficulty to living with my status. I didn't give up, i went to college and earned my A.A. in nursing with highest honors and now i'm earning my BSN. Yes, i am paying 3 times a normal person's tuition by working hard, so i do feel i deserve at least the right to demonstrate that i should live here and not be denied as if i were the worst the criminal. Even though i have achieved a lot with my "limitations" i still will not be able to get a job as a nurse (my dream)

November 9, 2010, 12:36pm (report abuse)America has laws for a reason! ILLEGAL alien means nothing to those of you who would take the whole world into America? It boggles the mind! No one is saying they are not good or smart or worthy of the US. We have laws and laws should be obeyed. This one is most important we have. You will dilute the US if we were to let everyone in. Wait until the real world lands on you when you loose your job and there are many more people fighting to get it. How would you feel about that? As long as you are OK then heck, open up the gate.
Those of you who feel that amnesty is a good thing in my opinion are NOT Americans...you don't care about her. Shame ON YOU

“Binders Full of Women”?
If you’re like most people, you didn’t even hear about “binders full of women.” Most people don’t pay attention to the presidential debates, you see. They might not be wrong to ignore these narrow windows into the qualific...
