April 28, 2009, 10:20am (report abuse)When might this get approved ? I am leasing a 2007 Altima. Could I use this credit from my old 1996 Volvo wagon towards a purchase of the leased Altima ?

May 16, 2009, 10:46pm (report abuse)Wake up!!! We need this!! There are a lot of us driving the wheels off our old Blazers and Chevy Trucks!! We could use some extra dough to get something more fuel efficient!! Especially when we drive 70 miles one-way to get to work!! But it's gotta be 4-wheel drive for the winter snowstorms!!
So, let's get this ball rolling!!
Also; Can we scrap my fiancee's 1985 Chevy Pickup truck with a V-8
[Put a brand new engine in a few years ago; but the body is a mess; and needs master brake cylinder] to get one of these vouchers; and can he let me use it toward something like a Jeep Compass??? Anybody see anything wrong with that??? I could trade my Blazer, as well if I could get a Voucher for it. But I will not give it away for nothing!!
I just put a new fuel pump in it; for $750. bucks!! Anybody got any answers???
Thanks!! Oh, and where do ya sign up for these vouchers????

May 18, 2009, 3:08pm (report abuse)Our teen drives a 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee 186000miles on it.Soon as this bill passes im trading it and getting her her a new better mpg car to drive to college in. I’ll be going from 15 mpg to 27… Im sure there are thousands more like me that are WAITING on this bill. I know $4500 is a big insintive to trade. Wish it was $7500 instead. Probably would really get people motivated to buy new cars then. (Espesially since everyone is holding on to there money in this economy.) Should also give people a $4500 credi in ADDITION to there trade-in-value to trade there newer gas hogs in for better mpg cars. (If there serious about the enviroment.) I just cant trade my newer SUV in for less otherwise.

May 29, 2009, 9:27am (report abuse)Has anyone looked at the negative affect that this bill would have on the automotive aftermarket? This bill requires people to scrap all of the old cars that are traded in. Many of these old cars go to repair shops to be fixed. If they are scrapped, and not fixed, what happens to the repair shops?

May 29, 2009, 10:50pm (report abuse)People will still need to get there car repaired (i.e. oil changes, new tires, tune ups, ect.) not everyone can afford to go out and trade even when this bill passes. I'm waiting to trade our older 97 Jeep when H.R.1550 passes. And when H.R.1606 passes I'm trading our gas hog SUV in for something that gets better gas mileage too.

June 3, 2009, 2:18am (report abuse)If this was a state bill and you all lived in my state ... I would MOVE!
Unfortunately it's Federal Bill.
Most of you seem to be overly eager to spend money we don't have in the first place ... what a shame!

(logged in user) June 9, 2009, 9:17pm (report abuse)This is designed to force the American public to purchase Government Motors and their death trap vehicles. I'll keep the old gas hog Suburband until she dies and then buy the biggest FORD I can find!

June 19, 2009, 3:42pm (report abuse)What a massive fraud this will be....I think I am going to buy an old piece of crap car for $100 and then trade it up for the $4,500 credit, and then resell the vehicle and pocket the profit.....you could go into your own business in this manner.

June 29, 2009, 6:03pm (report abuse)Some people are sooo ignorant. This is not only great for the planet, it is great for those trying to get a good down payment for a car. There are still going to be people driving old cars so NO mechanics will not be out of jobs! As long as there are cars around there will be a need for mechanics. For all those who are rich and don't need the act to pass, what are you on here for anyway? Just to be negative I guess. It would be nice for some money to go towards those who need the extra help (for a change)!

(logged in user) July 13, 2009, 11:34am (report abuse)Given the state of the economy, in an effort to keep people in the auto industry working we need this bill to pass, allowing manufacturers to continue to pay employees.
At the same time the environment will be aided and we will deplete the ozone layer less and less.
When it all comes down to it though, people can't afford to purchase a new vehicle because of the economy and this act would not only help stimulate the economy through more sales, but it will keep workers in their jobs and it will help the planet just that bit more.
Is there any word when this Act will progress to the next level?

July 15, 2009, 7:58pm (report abuse)I think that the government big-wigs should deal with what is on their plate currently... Don't they have better stuff to be spending TAXPAYER DOLLARS ON!? Yep that's right! You Mr (Or Mrs.) will be paying your hard earned money over to the officials so they can turn around and help out those that bail out others...
