H.R. 1324 would amend the Child Nutrition Act of 1966 to improve the nutrition and health of schoolchildren and protect the Federal investment in the national school lunch and breakfast programs by updating the national school nutrition standards for foods and beverages sold outside of school meals to conform to current nutrition science.

May 3, 2009, 10:47am (report abuse)I support this bill so long as it does not replace sugar laden food with artificial sweeteners such as Splenda, sucralose and aspartame. These are many studies to date that relate the use of artificial sweeteners to the promotion of obesity due to the fact that these sweeteners trigger the brain to become more hungry because of the empty calories ingested. This program should be implemented by promoting the fresh fruit and vegetable program nationally.
