January 16, 2009, 12:15pm (report abuse)I couldn't agree more. If you are here illegally and you have a child it is ridiculous that you can stay and your child now has citizenship. Its time to start defending the sovereignty of our country and our borders.
If you disagree with this bill you really need a reality check.
Without borders you don't have a country.

January 21, 2009, 9:07am (report abuse)So John, just what does make someone an "American"? Perhaps being an uneducated redneck is sufficient.

January 23, 2009, 6:32pm (report abuse)I don't understand Why children born by illegal immigrants should be granted citizenship. Very few, if any, other countries allow it.
Please consider this..
January 26, 2009, 4:20pm (report abuse)If people's citizenship comes from where they are born, then everybody has a country. If we say to children born in the US to foreign, or in the future, perhaps, stateless parents, (because predictions are that global warming may cause huge migrations) we are basically saying to these children, you don't exist, you have NO rights. Because your PARENTS did something we don't like.
Global warming could send US travelling
January 26, 2009, 4:23pm (report abuse)There are millions of people all around the world who have no country. They are in a terrible situation. For example, Japan uses laws like this to keep millions in legal limbo, people who were born in Japan. Often, their ancestors were brought to Japan as slaves decades or even centuries ago.
Children who are born in the US should receive a default citizenship. American.
The real issue here is vanishing good jobs. Those in Washington don't want to really solve that problem and foreigners are the scapegoats.
We already have a underclass who live in legal limbo, lets not make this problem worse.
If we do that, the next step along that road might be internal citizenship restrictions on travel and employment, like they have in China. Seriously.
Thats the way it is in many countries. Lets not go down that road. Global warming could cause global famine. Don't assume that we are somehow "immune" from disasters or bad politics.
May I see your papers?
January 26, 2009, 4:39pm (report abuse)We've all seen it in films.. "May I see your papers please?"
Why did they ask? because under totalitarianism, citizens of city X or state Y typically are tied to their hometowns or work towns because its easier to control them. You need permission to travel. This happened in Guatemala in the early 80s, everybody had to go back to their home town to get papers asserting their identity and political correctness. If you didn't have them, you could be shot. Vietnam had the strategic hamlets and free fire zones. Soon, stateless Americans? Our Constitution should not be changed to make future American-born children stateless. Kids should not be punished for their parents deeds. Would you want to be sold to pay off your parents debt like so many (white, European) Americans were originally when our Constitution was written?
Should we bring back hereditary debts, indentured servitude? Our Founders were wise men, perhaps far wiser than many today. Lets solve our problems some OTHER way.

February 4, 2009, 9:29pm (report abuse)come on folks! no one is stateless. you're parents came from somewhere! It's a common practice for women who are 7 months pregnent to come here on a 6 month tourist visa with the sole perpose of having their child on US soil. this child becomes a US citizen & qualifies for subsistance at Your expense! then when he/she turns 21 can petition for sponsorship of ALL his/her relitives to then come here & become wards of OUR state.
and you wonder why you can't find financial assistance to send your own children to college...
WAKE UP and ask the residents of California why their bankrupt.
did anyone ever suggest the "Stateless" people hold their own government responsible for the problems experienced. Accoutabiliy is the Key. Bad politics can be combated, but not by running away. Stay home & fight for your family & futher generations. Don't come here & dump your problems on an already stressed middle class struggling with our won burdens.

February 15, 2009, 9:25pm (report abuse)S&C sounds like you are just another liberal softie that is clearly not from this country...If you were you would agree that obtaining citizenship through proper channels and not sneeking to the us and having a baby is the way...calling John a redneck is typical leftist name calling...
Non-immigrant
March 16, 2009, 1:59pm (report abuse)What all those non-immigrant Parents.Shouldn't this bill be amended to include Parents that are non-immigrants, having AOS pending.
Ilegal Wetback
May 14, 2009, 1:17pm (report abuse)I was brought here when i was one year old, i have no choice, i cant go to college, i cant work, all because people like YOU! what did i do wrong? THINK!
Ilegal Wetback
May 20, 2009, 2:57am (report abuse)Since you are of age to work, I image you are of age to travel. If you were born outside this country -- I also image it was in another one. And there you have such choice. Put 2 and 2 together. Think.
