My husband is entitled to these benefits, but as they currently stand, they're almost unusable. The SAH minimum property requirements are such that you can't find an existing home that meets them, and so building is your only option. You can't build a house for less than $160,000, and that excludes the exterior required features for this housing grant. The automobile grant won't even come close to buying a new car, so you get a used car, and when it's time is up, that's it. You hope the car outlives you. My 100%SC, honorably discharged Marine husband feels like it's a punishment as it stands now, which requires a serious investment and coverage just to use it. So, we'll go look for a $30,000 existing home, rural, used car, and I'll continue to be his legs for him. I'll continue to be the plumber, the roof repair guy, the carpenter, nurse, mechanic, and assistant. I'll continue to do all that because this grant, as it stands, doesn't allow us to get past it into a barrier free home.
