June 5, 2009, 12:59am (report abuse)The President and all elected officials were voted in to represent US, THE UNITED STATES CITIZENS, NOT THEMSELVES! Our country has gone totally backwards! The rich are getting richer and more POWERFUL & GREEDY! It starts at the TOP! We need a NEW AMERICAN REVOLUTION PEOPLE! IF WE NEED TO START ALL OVER, SO BE IT! We need to get rid of all the political "Machines" that are ruining this so called "free country". They are in our cities, states and Washington. I think it's the Mob running our governments! After all, they don't do anything, unless they are making a buck off of it and they work hand in hand with lobbiest. In other words, they're pretty corrupt! We need to 1st STOP PAYING TAXES! What are they going to do, put every American in jail? Take All Our Homes Away? I think not! After all, they don't pay taxes and say it was "overlooked"! They are not above the law! ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

June 5, 2009, 9:53am (report abuse)Time is Money. How much time and money does it take for a Representative to change an Amendment, like the 22 Amendment?
In business, individuals who waste people's time and waste company money are fired. What a wasteful distraction of everyone's time and money.
Now can we get back to getting Representatives to follow the existing Constitutional Rules of Law and the Bill of Rights?

June 5, 2009, 12:37pm (report abuse)The real threat? Presidents are but pawns; they do as they are told by a powerful, elitist multi-national group whose goal is to control the finances of the world. How many of you have taken the time to investigate the persistant rumors of secret groups in power who want to create a new world order? Do you even know what they call themselves? where they meet? who the members are? Do you know they come from many nations? From both of our major political parties? Do your homework, folks... if you can comment here and vent your spleen, you can also take time to do the research. Waving pitchforks and .22 rifles won't save you, but knowing the facts about who really runs this country and the world, just might... good luck!

June 5, 2009, 12:54pm (report abuse)Our golden-tongued, two-faced, Socialist President and that old Pervert Barney Frank have very effectively pushed our nation beyond any hope of ever recovering. The downward spiral will continue as they gain full control.

June 6, 2009, 5:04pm (report abuse)At coffee, I commented that I would not be surprised if Obama wanted a third term. Then I got the news. I believe that his main goal is to destroy this country. We now have 27 Czars' that have the power to dictate rules to every citizen in this Nation. We must start a grass roots movement to return America to freedom. All political affialiations must unit to accomplish this task, and purge Congress of the traitors that call themselves our representatives.

June 6, 2009, 7:00pm (report abuse)I have traveled the world for 40 years and carried and waved our American Flag I am ashamed of what has happened to this country and no longer can tout our great society for fear of confrontation.
Our "founding fathers" are rolling over in their graves.

June 7, 2009, 4:54pm (report abuse)Obama has already become a charactature of a King. When he speaks he uses the first person ( "I came to Egypt because..")He sounds as if he speaks with complete power and not as a democratically elected leader of his people. He looks like a Roman orator with his index finger raised to make a point and his chin up in the air to impress his audience with his power. Heaven help this nation if we remove term limits. When does the revolution start?

June 7, 2009, 11:15pm (report abuse)Do we as American's want to end up like Iran or some of the other places with dictators??? I think we should vote at least every 4 years and that way we can keep new blood in office. That is how our government has been set up and it has worked for all of these years.
I truly believe it is time to get everyone in Washington out and start fresh. Everyone up there needs term limits in my opinion. God bless America!!!!!!!!!!!

June 8, 2009, 7:31pm (report abuse)Its a good thing this proposal to remove Presidental Term Limits was not introduced this time last year. If it was proposed to remove Presidental Term Limits Would have passed this time last year Bush could have run for a third term. If he got elected a third term I would throw a shoe at him and I would make sure he didn't duck so the shoe would hit him direct in the face. Thank God I don't have to worry about it anymore.

June 9, 2009, 9:28am (report abuse)There never has nor ever will be reason to repeal Constitutional Law no matter the circumstance. If we Americans continue to elect lawyers and career politicians for public office; we deserve exactly what we get....
Slightly less than a majority of voting Americans (depending upon how you view ACORN's voting recruitment practices) did not support Obama for President for good reason. Any candidate with as many "questionable" attributes should never been promoted by a party, but he was and we must all watch closely now at how the Democrats play the Executive Branch like a puppet to continue their "Global" strategy of dominance.
I for one, am not a citizen of this GLOBE. The GLOBE is not soverign, just look at China, Iran, Venesuela, Cuba, North Korea, etc... I am a citizen of my community hoping and praying that my country grows wise to the very dangerous game the Democrats are endeavoring to play. Liberalism can only serve those who have NO stake in its outcome!

June 9, 2009, 9:41am (report abuse)The mere suggestion of repealing the 22 Amendment of the Constitution or eliminating term limits SCREAMS of corruption. It was Thomas Jefferson who wrote that Americans must protect our Constitution as if it were a jewel.
How can ANYONE turn a blind-eye on such an immoral suggestion? This proposal should make every American furious at those who would be so bold as to introduce such a proposition.

June 12, 2009, 10:29am (report abuse)Where is the "unbiased" press in all this. If a republican had entered this kind of bill during the Reagan or Bush presidencies this would have been on headlines on every news channel and newspaper. June 13, 2009, 4:30pm (report abuse)Since GMC is eliminating meny of the Dealers (and their employees) to give the company "a new beginning," why did they not do that before the taxpayers expended the enormous bail-out money? Why would a U.S. President approve, much less recommend such a financial debocle? After all, the Dealers and employees had to find new jobs, why not all the GMC employees? Bush spent small change by comparison to all the bailouts.

I am totally opposed to a change to the Constitution's 22nd amendment to change the number of terms the President of the United States may serve. We do not need a dictatorship type of government. June 16, 2009, 4:15pm (report abuse)I wish everyone would read the constitution and procedures by which it can be amended. From this resolution in Congress it takes a 2/3rds vote in 34 state legislatures of the United States. An amendment like this is a near impossibility to obtain. Ask yourself when the last amendment to the constitution took place and why they are so hard accomplish. So please, stop all the misinfomation and regain some rationality in your comments and reactions.

June 17, 2009, 8:42pm (report abuse)The United States Constitution is unusually difficult to amend. As spelled out in Article V, the Constitution can be amended in one of two ways. First, amendment can take place by a vote of two-thirds of both the House of Representatives and the Senate followed by a ratification of three-fourths of the various state legislatures (ratification by thirty-eight states would be required to ratify an amendment today). This first method of amendment is the only one used to date. Second, the Constitution might be amended by a Convention called for this purpose by two-thirds of the state legislatures, if the Convention's proposed amendments are later ratified by three-fourths of the state legislatures.
Because any amendment can be blocked by a mere thirteen states

June 18, 2009, 9:56am (report abuse)One term is plenty for all our politicians, and that term should be two years. These people don't represent us, they are only looking out for themselves. They only want into office to get all the free benefits. They have their own free healthcare system, they receive a salary for the rest of their lives, and they don't have to pay social security....not to mention many don't even pay their taxes...What a great deal!!! So, how can these people truly represent us when they don't even play by our rules. Actually, the public should be able to vote at the end of every year as to whether we keep a person in office based on their performance.

June 19, 2009, 8:10am (report abuse)The supporters of Obama are both raving mad and a clear and present danger to constitutional government and our liberties. June 19, 2009, 12:14pm (report abuse)I agree with The Colonel, we need more term limits on all of them. To even enter this absurd resolution is a waste of time for congress. What a bunch of nuts!

June 19, 2009, 12:27pm (report abuse)Yes. It would have been truly tragic if the twenty second Amendment had been repealed in the last century and we had wound up with a third-term Clinton who was awake enough to read the National Security reports about bin Laden. And who left us with that God-awful budgetary surplus. Can you imagine the catastrophic consequences if we were still the most respected nation in the world? :-)
Remember: the 22nd only came into being in the Fifties. It is not one of the founding principles of the Republic.
But I am sure there is not a snow ball's chance that the 22nd will ever be repealed. Dubya's legacy will forever insure that no thinking person could ever commit to more that eight years of incompetence and/or megalomania from the same individual.
I suggest that those who are upset at this prospect should stop fretting about a dead-end proposal and spend their energies assisting the unemployed who are suffering the consequences of the last eight years of incompetent leadership.

June 19, 2009, 1:05pm (report abuse)I think I'm going to be sick!! I say put term limits on every office. Get rid of the career politician. That's the only way we will ever get politicians that are actually for the people!!

June 19, 2009, 4:05pm (report abuse)An easy solution to the problem is to take away the lifetime benefits of paid health insurance and salaries for all elected officials (make them pay like all of us do and collect social security benefits and pay into the retirement fund from which they will draw), have less vacation time (time away from their workplace), and keep their salaries in line with what is produced like the common worker. Also make sure they work during the campaign at their job, not constantly absent from voting on issues at hand. Enough said. Kruchev once said something to the effect in approximately 1957, there would be no need to overtake the U.S., as they will destroy themselves from within.

Our Founding Fathers ... considered ... debated ... and then ... rejected ... term Limits ... for our Presidents.
I'm a Republican and have always voted Republican.
after serving with General Dwight David “Ike” Eisenhower (1943 to 1945)
I voted for Ike in 1952 and 1956 and would have voted for Ike for a third term in 1960. President Dwight David “Ike” Eisenhower was a Good Man. and he was in favor of the repeal of the 22nd Amendment.
I voted for President Ronald Reagan in 1980 and 1984 and would have voted for President Ronald Reagan in 1988 President Ronald Reagan was a Good Man. and he was in favor of the repeal of the 22nd Amendment.
Our Founding Fathers ... considered ... debated ... and then ... rejected ... term Limits ... for our Presidents.
Democracy31416
(logged in user) June 21, 2009, 6:17am (report abuse)The 22nd Amendment is antidemocratic. Term limits deny the nation the opportunity to re-elect successful presidents. If Americans are pleased with the performance of their chief executive, why force him out because of a fear of power? Our checks and balances system is strong enough to resist over-weening ambition.
The 22nd Amendment robs us of the most experienced people for the office. Why not let the American people decide if they want to take advantage of that service instead of risking the job on an untried leader?
The day after a president wins a second term, everyone knows he is an instant lame duck. At the moment of his highest experience and level of authority, the president's ability to shape the policy agenda is diminished because everyone knows when he is leaving office. Attention quickly shifts to speculation about a successor, and soon he can do little more than focus on foreign policy. Pressing domestic tasks end up waiting until after the next election.
Democracy31416
(logged in user) June 21, 2009, 6:19am (report abuse)Repeal the 22nd Amendment Now!
One purpose of elections is to reward or punish leaders for their performance. Since second-term presidents will not face the electorate again, they have an incentive to use their discretionary authority without fear of retribution. In other words, they are less accountable to the public.
Our Founding Fathers ... considered ... debated ... and then ... rejected ... term Limits ... for our Presidents.
Repeal the 22nd Amendment Now!
