Let’s Amend the Constitution!

The beginning of a new Congress always sees a lot of bills that would propose amendments to the Constitution. That idea always starts with at least one strike against it - that document is not to be trifled with. But maybe there are some good ideas o...

And would trust a politician dallying with my Constitution? Congress has demonstrated it's inability to run a restauarant, unable to control spending, and

I'm supposed to trust a Constitutional Convention? Even a limited Constitutional Convention?

Perhaps the politicos should demonstrate the ability to abide by the Constitution first....

then we can talk.

In other words.... NO

The United States does not need a dictator. If this passes it will open the door wider for that to happen. This once great country is slipping deeper into a state of totalitarian control (out-right, all-encompassing government control). This would only aid in certain people achieving that end.

I somehow doubt many of you would have found this idea as disparaging if it were a Republican in office. As Laura stated herself, she would have voted for W. again had she the opportunity. It seems to me that a great majority of people who seem angry at this, on the right at least, to me, seem to just be angry that it isn't their team passing the bill.

Personally, I'm all for the dissolution of a central governing body, and I would be happy as a clam to see a state's right to govern it's people locally and self-sufficiently without the meddling of a federal body. I would just take off to Washington or California or one of the various states that align my own values.

This probably won't make it very far, and I'll say it's a good thing that it doesn't. I don't think we need to give the wealth (conservative or democratic) elite any more power than they need.

If GeorgeIII(aka W)had been allowed/prompted to whip up some more Executive Orders during his stays at our premier lodging facilities, H.J.R.5 would not be necessary for the next crop of ne'er-do-wells, this discussion couldn't happen, and the American People would ALREADY be SUBJECTS! We have made our country, and now we must live in it.

plain ol' me...

January 21, 2009, 2:32am (report abuse)

please don't allow this good people, we may have good leaders from time to time, but a lifetime of terms probably won't make them better. I'd rather take my chances on the new guy with new ideas because things don't usually stay on a steady stable course under the same guy/gal over long periods of time, i.e., congress and the senate. I'm doin' a lot of praying right now.

BTW buy more bullets we could be in for a rough ride.

January 25, 2009, 9:09pm (report abuse)

What we need, is to drop this bill, and propose one for a two term limit on Congress! Then, Congress couldn't screw up as bad, as they have already! The reason we have a limit, is so the people can vote all the idiots out.

Joy

February 2, 2009, 12:46am (report abuse)

You should all go back to reading Kos and listening to Limbaugh. This is hysterical. WE ELECT THEM. There were no term limits before the Republicans decided that they couldn't get elected with FDR's popularity, so they threw a wrench in the cogs to see what would happen. Then they regretted it when savior boy Reagan took office. Short sighted indeed.

Elections are term limits.

Term limits prevent the taking over of a government by men with too much money, or men with private armies. I don't care if its W or Obamanaut. Its a safety mechanism to prevent cult of personality despotism.

Welcome to the new dictatorship of America.. no matter how great President Obama is and will be, I don't want this country to become the same as my country I escaped in the middle, where the president stayed for 30 years and when he died they put his son after him using the same fake elections.

NO term limit = DICTATORSHIP

What a stupid bill !!

Leslie

February 13, 2009, 3:42pm (report abuse)

The president whether it be Republican or democrat, I would fee the same about their terms!

This filled up a loophole in our political process after FDR. 2 terms is enough for anyone to serve our country as president. As some of the other posts noted, it is a term office not a job career.

I too think we should limit the terms of Congres. Otherwise these personnel get way to much power...ie. Ted Kenedy! They should be limited to no more than 3 to 4. I think their retirement should be cut and they should have to pay taxes as well.....

Right at the moment, if state legislatures like Montana, Texas and others, continue to exercise a push back against the Feds there's a chance to overcome what this administration and Congress are trying to do. If HR 5 passes, violent overthrow of our government will be all that remains as a tool to regain our land. Push your state legislators to overthrow Federal attempts to usurp states rights under the Constitution.

HE HAS ALREADY CRUSHED THE ECONOMY, HE HAS ALREADY STARTED CONFLICT IN THE USA BETWEEN WHITES/BLACKS, AND SINCE WE ALL WILL BE FIGHTING AMONGST OURSELVES HE WILL BE ABLE TO INFLICT US WITH HIS OWN POLICE ORDER WHILE WE ARE NOT WATCHING. ENDING RESULT WILL BE THE DAMNATION AND RUIN OF THE COUNTRY WHERE WE HAD SOME INDEPENDENCE AND COULD WORK TOWARDS OUR DREAMS. The two-term limit should remain, however the first term should be four years and the second term should be six years. After four years, we should have a good idea if the President has the right stuff, making the second term six years long will give a good President enough time to do his job, and it will make the American people examine the issues before voting for that President for six more years.

Make term limits for every member of Congress- Doddering old fools like Claude Pepper, Strom Thurmond, Ted Stevens, RObert Byrd, Teddy Kennedy, Waxman, Charles Rangel have far outlived their "usefulness". They are all on the take and should be put out to pasture- sooner the better. But can you see any of the politicos agreeing to this, "You people need our experience and knowledge. Otherwise inexperienced congress men will be at the mercy of those evil lobbyists. But I only vote with my conscience- monetary contributions carry absolutely no quid pro quo. Just don't look in my freezer for stacks of $100 bills, wrapped in foil.

I've posted on this particular resolution before, so I'll repeat myself in here:

1) This resolution has no co-sponsors. Unless it gains significant co-sponsors to help the bill along, it's dead.

2) Rep. Serrano has been putting this resolution up for years - since the Clinton Administration. This is no news.

3) This is only a Resolution, not an actual call to a Constitutional Congress. There's several steps in the process to amend the Constitution, and this is the very first one.

Can we all stop drinking the alarmist Kool-Aid, please, and get back to the more important work of saving our country? Thanks. ;2)

Thomas Sowell said it best..."We seem to be moving in the direction of a society where no one is repsonsible for what he himself did but we are all responsible for what somebody else did, either in the present or in the past. One of the most important talents for success in politics is the ability to make utter nonsense sound not only plausible but inspiring. Barack Obama has that talent." I say..Under no circumstances should ANY person serve more than TWO consecutive terms as president. Beware of politicians with Obama's talent mentioned above.

Why is no one taking Obama behind the woodshed for helping ACORN orchestrate Global financial disaster? He is just as responsible for the economic mess here as Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, the CRA, Jimmy Carter and the greedy bankers who saw a hole open up after ACORN sued to force loans to non-paying buyers.

With only a couple of exceptions the comments shown in this blog are examples of not only the ability to recall or understand the last 30 years of this country's history but are also absolutely telling examples of the failure of our primary school system. Spelling errors, syntax errors, grammar errors. . . the list goes on. The most serious error of this last year was for the Democrats to win this last election. I suspect most of the comments above are products of bigotry rather than serious analytic thought. VTY

Obama is ruining this country faster than anyone dreamed could be possible. Don't fool yourself into thinking only IV league graduates are capable of making the decisions for our nation. The same problems reside both in the political world and the industrial world (and most others). Look at GM and Chrysler, if it were not for the unions' manipulation of the system put in place to "protect" the workers it "served" and the obvious greed shown by both them and the "executives" in charge of the decisions (or lack thereof) there would not be such an issue with a "bailout". Look at the banking industry.... All of the crap about the money wasted and the poor management of the mortgages and home loans. Who do you think such stupid decisions actually benefit? They are made for some reason, no matter how dumb they seem to be. SOMEONE made money and lots of it....

Whether it is for a political term in an office or a consistant price for a gallon of gas, it all boils down to the same problem: GREED

That's what we really need to work together against no matter what political affiliation, race, gender, creed, religion or point of view that you have, we all share the problem.

Why would Obama spend 800,000 on Lawyers to block a law firm from presenting an order to make him produce his REAL BIRTH CERTIFICATE. We all could get out of this mess if he would prove that he is really qualified to be president. If we don't do something, we will be in a DECLARED WAR WITH IRAN,....Then he can be president forever or until the war is over. Fat Chance. You people keep blaming Bush for this mess, but he was a Lamb Duck president for two years. Remember the people who are in control of Congress now , were there two years ago. This will force these people to work. As far asi can tell I WOULD LOVE TO BE PRESIDENT, just for the fun.

Which seems to be the level of seriousness taken at this level.

You have lost your country. You fools. Rails your pitch-forks and start the march, clean out the house all over the land.
