February 7, 2009, 6:13pm (report abuse)A long overdue Ammendment to our Constitution that is necessary because our fore fathers were too honest to ever imagine a goverment that would not be "for the people, and by the people", and therefore could not predict the power hungry corruption that has infected some of our elected representatives. Let's give the American people back their voice and reinvent ourselves to become even better.

February 19, 2009, 12:33pm (report abuse)This is a bill that will NEVER get passed. You don't really think those on "the hill" will vote themselves out of a job do you? The only way we will ever get them to change is by forcing them to do so.

(logged in user) August 13, 2009, 2:11pm (report abuse)I agree congress will NOT vote themselves out of a job. It must be some sort of referendum or amendment on a national level. Let's do it!!!

August 25, 2009, 12:04am (report abuse)Longggg Overdue! I say, "Let's go for it!" Congress imposed term limits on the Executive Branch so I think it is time that they are forced to set the pace as well. Elected Representatives must serve and then go home! Being a politician is not a vocation....It is a temporary calling that is sought and extended to those desiring to serve by the constituents -- ONLY! They work for us the voters, not the other way around.

(logged in user) August 25, 2009, 6:46pm (report abuse)Sorry, but this Joint Resolution just doesn't do the job. It is only a pacifier.
The president is limited to only two lifetime full terms, and 2 years of his predecessor's term if he accedes from the Vice-Presidency.
Members of congress should be limited to a maximum that does not exceed this time. House members should be limited to no more than 2 terms. If they were good they can run for the Senate but should be limited to only one term in this case.

August 25, 2009, 8:40pm (report abuse)I think it could pass, I mean, it's not like they actually read the bills anyway. Maybe it could be the ultimate congressional staffers' practical joke.

August 31, 2009, 1:25am (report abuse)I am a believer in trm limits, and we must make certain that we elect those who are qualified and not just learning the ropes the first year or two. It is up to US, the voters, to do our homework. Charisma, charm, etc. just don't cut it....we need well informed, prepared elected officials that can flat hit the ground running!

August 31, 2009, 5:54pm (report abuse)I wish we could get this through. Our representatives were not to meant to make a lifetime career giving themselves automatic raises but breaks a "contract" with S.S. giving cost of living after spending it's coffers. They should also not have the "make me rich pensions" they give themselves. astly they should have to take Their own government health care be it Medicare or Obama care. YES it is time for term limits.

September 1, 2009, 12:24pm (report abuse)We The People already have the power to impose term limits on our representatives. It is called the Vote and it takes place every few years. It is unfortunate that many people in this country are just not paying attention to what our "representatives" are trying, and many times succeeding, to do to us. As Carol has stated in the previous post, we should also put a stop to outrageous pensions these "representatives" vote themselves. We The People should also give each of our "representatives" an Annual Salary Review and base their salary increases (yes, even decreases) on the results. And no more keeping the Seat warm by just voting "Present"! Imagine if your private sector boss asked you a Yes or No question and you answered "Present". Enough said.

September 7, 2009, 10:37am (report abuse)Vote these lame people out of office, there is no way they will vote to give themselves limits. There is no way a senator should be able to make a life career out of being a public servant, and getting rich by doing so from our tax dollars. Getting rich in this country is a great thing, but not off of tax dollar income from people being over taxed in a free nation. VOTE THEM OUT OF OFFICE

October 1, 2009, 9:24am (report abuse)This is a bill that promotes a healthy rotation of people into and out of congressional service. Anything that remains in one place for too long, including people, becomes stale and unable to see needed changes.
