S. 329, The Pulmonary and Cardiac Rehabilitation Act of 2007 (3 comments ↓)
S. 329 would amend title XVIII of the Social Security Act to provide coverage for cardiac rehabilitation and pulmonary rehabilitation services.

COPD is on the increase. The resulting costs will be huge; fortunately, pulmonary rehabilitation programs keep patients in good physical condidtion and educates them on good nutrition and how to use their meds most effectively.
As a result, there are fewer hospitalizations and health crises. Costs are reduced, and quality of life is enhanced. These rehab programs
should be available in all states.

Cardiac & pulmonary rehab services are vital to our elderly to help regain their health following major heart/lung diseases. Medicare continues to cut the payments for vital services these people need. With the baby boomer generation becoming of age for these events, the need will be even greater. Keeping patients healthy & out of the hospital will help reduce medical costs.

I am a respiratory therapist helping nursing homes with their COPD patients. This bill would really help them out.Medicaid pays for physical, occupational, And speech Therapy, but not respiratory. Medicaid will pay for you to exercise, learn to use a spoon, and teach you how to swallow food, but if you get short of breath and cant breath.....off to the hospital(which mind you that you and i pay for). This bill would allow people in our profession to stop this waste of money of useless hospitalizations. Im not saying that nobody deserves to goto the hospital, but 75-95% of the patients that goto the hospital for shortness of breath,come back in 2-3 days. Why not use that money to train these patients and rehab them (and the nurses) to try to stop this costly cycle. Wouldn't you want the best care for you mother or father? I WOULD
