S. 3246 would amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to allow the Secretary of the Treasury to set the standard mileage rate for use of a passenger automobile for purposes of the charitable contributions deduction.

August 8, 2008, 3:50pm (report abuse)As the cost of living rises, the war in Iraq takes more and more of tax payers money, the nation's poorest and those in need look for charities and volunteers to meet their most basic needs. This bill will help reimburse these volunteers their out of pocket expenses. Many are on them are barely above poverty level themselves and yet give their time and attention to others in need. Let us honor their efforts by passing this legislation.
