July 4, 2007, 10:31pm (report abuse)Opponents to the bill should visit the USGS National Map website (http://nationalmap.gov/nmnews.html#what) to gain insight into the work being done.
It was the mapping work done by USGS that allowed rescue workers to locate people trapped in houses in New Orleans when both house and the street signs were under water (http://nationalmap.gov/nmnews.html).
Without the geospatial data provided (and the use of USGS watercraft) many people may not have been rescued.
