Once authorized, LEO status for GS-1895 CBP officers needs to be funded in the 2008 budget. Please make it happen.

T

CBP Officers enforce more laws and regulations than any covered law enforcement group. Are issued semi-auto weapons and bullet proof vests. Wear uniforms and are told they are expected to be the premier law enforcement agency bar none. Authorized to make arrests and are assaulted more than any other law enforcement group. And yet, they are not a covered law enforcement position. Why?

G-Police Man

The current definition of a Federal Law Enforcement Officer is unfair and unjust! It specifically isolates and separates certain law enforcement agencies for no logical or justifiable reason other than MONEY! This is an absolute desgrace and is completely outrageous considering all of the security clearances, physical training, physical screening, 10+ year background checks and annual psychological exams these officers go through just to remain employed. The current definition is inaccurate and is in desparate need of repair and only congress has the ability to get this process initiated and approved.

I do not work (nor ever have) for CBP but do live in a community where there is a land border. It is not fair that a CBP Officer is treated any different from those from other agencies (Federal or not). It is time that we treat these officers with the same respect as we would the one who is giving you a ticket for doing 30 in a 25mph zone.

U.S. DVA - POLICE

VA Police have statutory arrest authority granted by Title 38 USC 902. Officers carry firearms, handcuffs, OC spray and batons, They arrest individuals for violations of Federal law (Title 18 USC) and VA Regulations-CFR 1.218(b) also, they enforce State and local criminal laws adopted under The-Assimilated-Crimes-Act (18 USC 13), and they must pass security clearances, physical training, annual physical screening, 10+ year background checks, annual psychological exams and monthly training just to remain employed, with no Federal Law Enforcement Retirement Provision. VA Police, after 30 years receive the same retirement as cooks, janitors, clerks, secretaries, FMS personnel, housekeepers etc; but no other non-law enforcement employees within the VA system have to meet the specific job requirements that we do. Congress needs to ACT and do something about this unfair retirement situation because it doesn’t take 15-20 years to get things done in this country.

The entire 0083 police series within the Federal Government is a waste! Many of them are decentralized, mismanaged, unorganized and extremely
limited with next to no law enforcement authority and no 6c/LEO retirement. Each and every Federal Police agency needs to be absorbed into one much more efficient structured and streamlined agency with similar retirement, pay, polices and authority.

Dan

I've worked Military Police 6yrs,
State Corrections Ofc, Federal Corrections Ofc and VA Police. VA Police was by far the most dangerous position. For that reason if nothing else they should be afforded better retirement.

Ex - VA Police Officer

VA Police Officers are getting a royal F**king by The Federal Government, The DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS AFFAIRS and their own union the AFGE! I worked as a municipal police officer in two different high crime districts and a correctional officer with the DOJ - BOP before joining the VAPD. As a VAPO for three years, I had well over 100 physical altercations with DRUNKS, MENTAL PATIENTS, MURDERES, CHILD MOLESTERS, WANTED FELONS, EMPLOYEES, THIEVES, COMBAT VETS ETC; I left because “That job is too dangerous to be treated like crap” for low pay and no 6C retirement. This in unjust, unfair and needs to be changed!

D. Walker

I have served 10 years as an MP in the Army, transferring after that to the Dept of the Army Civilian Police. Between the two of those occupations I have effected over 100 felony "apprehensions." I have been under automatic rifle fire in the attempted theft of an ATM machine, in which my patrol car was struck 17 times. I am now a police officer for another branch within the DoD, again with no "statutory power of arrest," yet I do the exact same job as any other "law enforcement officer." No LE retirement, no LE respect, and because I am now 40 years old, though still able to pas ANY physical fitness test, I can't transfer to any agency with those benefits. Why should some of us suffer due only to the almighty dollar!

Booyaka

Man, the G don't care about Sh**t, but rippin off the taxpayers....so don't worry about any type of advancements within the 0083 series because it will never happen!

Union Rep

On the behalf of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. We receive the same training as all the other agency that recieve retirement. We have the same authority as other Federal Agencies that receive retirement. We deserve to have the same opportunities to that other agencies receive.
