This atty gen'l needs to be tried for treason for repeatedly violating his oath to support and defend the Constitution of The United States of America.

Jack Lamb

Outrageous...anyone can be "suspected" of anything. Way to much power for any Govt. to have.

Real Americans Must Support This

We need to support President Bush's vision of the unitary executive. To do otherwise would be a signal to the terrorists that we are not serious about defending our freedom.

C. Miller

AG Gonzales' support of this bill makes former AG John Ashcroft look like a saint. To deny Constitutional Rights based merely on "suspected conduct" and then to be able to deny any information relating to this determination based on "national security" being comprised, is outragous at best. Wake up America! Wake up New Jersey! Frank Lautenberg is not your friend.

Brian

WOW!!! Better watch how you sneeze, it could be construed as a "Conspiracy to commit a terrorist act", and would therefore "justify" the Gestapo... Oops!, I mean the U.S. government in the confiscation of ALL of your firearms, right down to the last Red Ryder BB gun! According to the bill, they don't even have to tell you why you've been banned for the sake of preserving "national security"! This is exactly the legislation the Democrats and the "New Left Movement" spawned, U.N. fearing Neo-Cons need to obtain absolute control of their subjects, I mean the American People. This bill, to say the very least, is an abomination! For Heaven's sake people, don't be lulled into a false sense of security that your government will never consider you, a law-abiding American citizen to be a "Dangerous Terrorist"! This is just like the Salem witch trials, all they need is for someone to point the finger!!!

HBB

This latest Lautenberg lunacy tops all others and is further conclusive evidence that the real terrorist threat to America does not emanate from radical Islam but from the halls of the U. S. Senate and House of Representatives.

Lautenberg is a Nazi and should be tried and hanged for treason.

What kind of idiots are so ignorant of what the United States Constitution is all about that he or she would even think of voting for these tyrants?

Ryan

When did we, the American people, and our elected officials stop reading, understanding, or beleiving in the Constitution? This proposed law tramples, or just plain ignores, so many of our basic guarenteed Rights that I wonder where I am currently living? I hope that those individuals who I have helped to elect use common sense, of course my emails should help them to understand my disgust with those who drafted this bill, and those who actually think that it would work.

Barry

This proposal is a denial of rightsd under the guise of protecting "freedom." The proposal (S.1237) stinks of Joe McCarthy and his list of unamericans. Now it is suggested that the Atty Genl can unilaterally deny 2d amendment rights without judicial review.

Dave

What an idiot Gonzales is....
Does he thing that we are so afflicted?

He could tag anyone as a terrorist and deny him the ability to protect himself and his family.

JSC

Not only no but HELL, NO!

Vic

This is dangerous not only by it's contents; but the precedent it would set.

2nd Amendment!

What's next, is the Attorney General going to deny the sell of planes? Maybe cars too!

Larry

Since New Jersey is having trouble sustaining bear hunting perhaps the good Senator would enjoy a long walk in the woods.

Burl Finkelstein

This is a stupid bill that is attempting to circumvent the Constitution. Last I looked at the law it was already illegal to treansfer firearms or explosives to a terrorist or any other criminal. In fact, you need a federal license to buy any explosives since the Safe Explosives Act!

Pro-Constitution

Blatant power grab under the guise of improving security. If there's any doubt the powers-that-be of both parties are moving to establish a police state, this should remove it.

ZeeCaptain

This has all the markings of Nazism in the 21st century!!! Where does all the bull stop?!?! Once these idiots start rewriting the Constitution then where will it stop?!?! IT WON'T!! I think Gonzales and Lautenberg need a good ass kicking!

ZeeCaptain

The very first thing the Nazi's did to the German citizen's was to confiscate all the guns and once those guns were gone the citizens had absolutely NOTHING to say and they had NO RIGHTS!!! They were, literally, no longer CITIZENS! They were now SUBJECTS!!! Ask yourself this question: Why is our so-called government so eager to disarm us!?!?!?!? It's a very scary thought!!

GG

I think this bill is quite ridiculous no terrorist is going to buy weapons or explosives off of the american civilian market. The bottom line is for their purposes things available to american civies just don't have enough bang to really be effective for thier ends. Sorry but if you want thousands you need to go to the black market already so this is just a nice disarm and silence the guy that figures out what we are doing bill

shawn

Have the democrats gone mad??? They are the same as Bush???

ZeeCaptain

Let me make myself crystal clear; I will own and keep ALL of my firearms, PERIOD!!! You can send in Delta Force; the Navy Seals; the ATF; the FBI; the Secret Service; the Marine Corps and everyone else, but you will have to kill me to get my firearms! I am a law abiding citizen; I hold a conceal handgun permit and my background is pristine, but the guaranteed way to lose your freedom in the twinkling of an eye is to let our government disarm us. In literally every country where they have banned gun ownership crime has gone through the roof!!! As a gun owner you are a Citizen and being disarmed makes YOU a SUBJECT and don’t ever forget that!!!!!

ZeeCaptain

Real Americans Must Support This.
Our "so-called" President can shove S 1237 up his ass!!!

Alan

It would be fine to have a law to deny firearms to terrorists but we already have laws for that and those laws need vigourous encorecement. This one does not say how the Attorney General would make such determinations and thus leaves it wide open who could be targeted to lose their right to have a firearm. Any future federal administration could use this to target unsuspecting law abiding gun owners and slowly disarm the populace. All the sponsors and co-sponsors are left leaning liberals with strong tendencies for 'gun control' and would not bat an eye to use this to that end to keep the populace under their control.

P. Miller

Yes, we need effective protection against terrorists. But one look at the S.1237 bill sponsors reveals the real intent: gun control. The 12 sponsors include Lautenberg, Schumer, Feinstein, Clinton, Dodd, and Kennedy. These senators are hard-core gun controllers, not national security wonks. This legislation not only tromps on the 2nd Amendment, but also on the 5th by declaring the denied gun possessor a felon – without any due process. Also the 6th by withholding exculpatory evidence. My experience with the Florida concealed weapons law is that the NRA has proven itself highly skilled at crafting a law that achieves its purpose without trampling on our Constitution. They should be consulted.

P.Miller

Mr. ZeeCaptain, we certainly agree that gun control is unconstitutional and a really ill-conceived way to make us safer. After correctly identifying the bad guy, our idea of gun control is hitting what you aim at! This bill is sponsored by 11 liberal, gun controlling democrats, plus one independent. No, I am not suggesting shooting them, but that is where our problem is sourced. I reckon that you meant that real Americans should fight, not support S.1237. Also, our President stands for our 2nd Amendment rights and would veto such a law as it is currently drafted.

SSgt C, USMC

I just read about this jackassery in America's 1st Freedom, July issue. How ironic would it be to come home from the desert and find out I'm a felon and have all my guns siezed? The concept may be fundamentaly sound, but the execution is drastically flawed. Plus, as we all know, these people will find a way to procure firearms for their cause no matter what control measures we put into place. This is absurd and must be stopped. I'm emailing my congressmen and senators.

Phil Bonhag

Where is the ACLU on this one? Next thing coming is the suspension of 4th Amendment Search and seizure laws, in the interest of "fighting terrorism." Why don't we give the U.S. Attorney General the right to suspend any and all of the Bill of Rights arbitrarily. in the interest of combatting terrorism? We're letting the terrorists win if this kind of legeslation is allowed to pass.
