Minor US citizen

Mr. Ron Hodges, a teacher at MHS speaks for us here. My parents are about to be deported and I have lived here all my life. I would hope the US Senate would value the opinion of Mr. Hodges in this matter instead of the business slavers and government officials here.

Reality

Yes, I would agree Ms. Doromal and Ron Hodges speak in behalf of workers and represent a moral majority of the NMI, but reality says the commonwealth needs to reduce workers unless the US makes enormous investment here. I do not think the US will invest anything in the NMI until the people of the CNMI have removed Ben Fitial and prosecuted him and his allies for many crimes against guest workers here.

Saipan Chamber of Commerce

Ron Hodges and Ms. Doromal (I have not met Ms. Doromal) speak only from a human rights stance and have not weighed the facts of our grim economic prospects.

Hodges said we need an immediate and continued elevation in our minimum wage and small business owners in Saipan are closing daily because they can not survive. Ronnie's company has no full time employees and his economic picture is skewed by his social justice convictions. Fairness and reality are often in conflict and I would think a world history person would understand that. Chamberonomics and Rononomics will lead to the downfall of the CNMI as we know it.

CNMI residency

Is the NMI realy offering permenant residency? Is there a catch and will we be able to operate businesses? Will we if we get improved status?

Dances with wolves

Irene Tantiado addressed the residency issue with heartfely clarity in her article "Dancing with wolves".

Article 12

Will the CNMI put the article 12 issues on the ballot in April. Are they voting to change to a 75 year lease?

Mimay

I think think that the federal takeover is inevitatble. Let's just hope for the best and move on.

Hu Saluda Hao

Wendy Doromal, you are the best!!!

CNMI Watchdog

Will the Maverick anti-federalization "secret" meeting group proceed with their April 2 meeting in light of the proceeding S.2739, the US stance by Kennedy & Miller on minimum wages, and the swirling controversy involving Ben Fitial?

News coverage

CNN international and the Washington Post are calling people about the situation here. Will the US ever do anything or are they waiting for the fed bill to pass?

Saipan Chamber

So what if Chamberonomics ends economics as we know know it in the CNMI...that would be great. Decent pay for work in a free market envirnment...that would be great. The US, Guam, Hawaii, and every successful country does it except China. NMI residents should want this place less like China, not more.

Disgusted

I have long supported a block on federalization and am a current Saipan Chamber of Commerce member, but after watching the economic collapse of the CNMI the last year, I have thrown in the towel and am offically pro-federalization.

We do need US investment here. We do need to remove Ben Fitial. We may, swallow my pride, need to raise the minimum wages. We need a more proactive Vistor Bureau. We need a smart, tough, no bullsh*t Governor with credibility. We need to reduce the size of our government and legislature. We need partnership plans with Guam. We need federal assistance with power and water. We need to eliminate Article 12. We need Unity, action, and a comittment or hard work.

We need to structure a new vision for a new Northern Marianas Islands.

Dreamer

We need to end the hate mail and move forward. We need to offer opportunity for our young people.

Health Conscious

Saipan Tribune 03/29/08 edition>>> $7,901 for a circumcision.Parent outraged over son's hospital bill. We don't only need federal assistance with CNMI [Saipan/Rota/Tinian] power and water but most of all HEALTH care. If I got a heart problem, I'll be dead upon receipt of this ridiculous "CIRCUMCISION" hospital bill. HELLO AMERICA! Can you hear our voices here in the CNMI? How long shall we wait for you to come and save us? READ IT please.

FEDERALIZATION

Rumors swirling in DC say the federalization bill before the US Senate may pass unanimously by April 4.

May God bless America.

NMI residency core group

Will we they still have their NMI coup anti-federalization meeting at 1pm Weds?

Why would anyone jump on a losing bandwagon or enlist in a defeated army at this point?

Yea federal

Thanks to mam Wendy Doromal, Representatives George Miller & Donna Christensen, Ron Hodges, Tina Sablan, Nick Rahill, Senator Edward Kennedy, and our new Ombudsman Jim Benedetto.

Out=r thanks are genuine and lasting.

Forgettaboutit

Don't let the enemy use a devide and conquer strategy from the rules of war against long disanfranchised guest workes.

Forgettabotit until US federal labor and immigration sets the rules for us.

Saipanese

I firmly believe that the U.S. will federalize the island of Saipan to help and do what is best for it's people. It is one of Uncle Sam's territories and I don't see any reasons for them to destroy it. FEMA is there during calamities, foodstamps for the low income families, funds for the gov't, etc...These are just some of the proofs of their good intentions. We should not be afraid. Let us embrace change and progress. Let us dance to the tune of this changing world.

REDERALIZATION

The vote date in the Senate is expected before 4-11-08.

Watchdog

Will the Fitial administration cancel PL-15-108 after federalization or use it for the one year transition period.

It is my understanding that the grandfathering provision that the Fitial followers got taken from the fed bill will be added as s.2739 provides before 2 years. This is certain for guest workers legally employed.

Curious

Does anyone know what opinion Tina Sablan, Wendy Doromal, Ron Hodges, and Jim Benedetto have about NMI residency?

Answer

Curious - Wendy Doromal has it pasted on her web site at unheardnomore.blogspot.com & she is against and thinks guest workers will get green cards. Hodges has written articles against CNMI residency as he thinks it is meant to undermine federalization. Jim Benedetto issued a statement that it is against the law. I have not heard Rep. Sablan's offical statement but I have heard she likes this plan to replace PL-108 for the transition period.

Curious

Why then does Dekada support it?

Answer

I am not sure the Dekada supports it but perhaps they think it is better for thos enot legally employed, which may be a large number here, in fact, the Governor said "all those people are illegal and I'm going to deport them". Their lawyer seems to have confidenc in Fitial according to comments he is writing on other blogs.

Federalization ?

Is the date 4-11-08 accurate for the Senate bill passing?

Will the FFF (fitial fed fighters) offer NMI residency for guest workers in the transition period or will PL-15-108 apply?

Will there be amnesty for illegal workers?

Rallies

There is a meeting for FFF (fitial freedom fighters) across from Hopwood April 2 to discuss NMI residency.

There will be a prayer rally or vigil April 5 at AMP for pro-federalization guest workers, concerned residents, and the local concerned citizens.

NMI Senate vote

FYI

The Senate will vote on and unanamously pas S.2739 no later than April 11, 2008.

President Bush is expected to sign this within ten days.

Scam

If DC lawyers know the fed bill is about to pass, why are they in big hurry for NMI residency? It must be sum scam or BS.

Facts

I agree with the Doromal, Hodges, Tina Sablan, and others on federalization, but this economy can not endure another wage hike.

Stanley stiffled

NMI House of Representatives member, Stanely Torres, has had his wings clipped regarding privilege speeches in the CNMI Congress. Torres is infamous for running his mouth and defaming people while hiding behind legislative immunity. He has a long history of this conduct and is a total disgrace to the commonwealth.

A couple of his recent works were blastinf former DPS head Rebecca Warfield for after hours party conduct and the author off the now famous, Ron Hodges, "persona non grata" resolution that called him a racist, threatened him, and asked him to vacate the CNMI. Some of the newly elected and more progressive legislators (not to mention more smarter) have had enough of his antics.

Change underwear #1

During the 1980’s, the CNMI had a long term residency law in effect. And promptly changed it. Via repeal by the CNMI Legislature.

Now these same longtime CNMI politicos urge those so long wholly disenfranchised by the CNMI’s laws and policies-----those being the overwhelming majority of the CNMI private sector workforce, labeled CNMI “non-resident” workers despite years of de facto CNMI presence-----to consider/accede to newly proposed CNMI “long-term-resident” laws of some type?

These of course the same CNMI politicos who in wholesale disregard, and utter contempt, for CNMI constituents have over the decades enacted-then-repealed, enacted-then-ignored, and enacted-without-enforcement, CNMI laws,
