Vote "no" on Bill #HR 137! Americans should be free enough not to have to explain why they need to move their animals(because, sometimes one needs to). I have no illicit purposes in mind for moving livestock, but I don`t have the time to be hassled by government bureaucrats looking for those who do,either. Remember when we as Americans were proud of how free we were? Let`s bring that freedom back.

i am against this bill passing, for the simple fact the more the government makes laws and takes away the rights of Americans, like your freedom of choice and freedom of speech, they will continue to do so, and then are we really free. this country was founded on the Bible and the constitution and we are supposed to be a free country, but we are not. cock fighting does not hurt any one person and it is many peoples way of life, so i think you should vote no on this bill. my husband and i used to raise pit bull terriors and we lived in town, until the town where we lived outlawed them, so we moved to the country. a person should not have to move the keep what they choose to have. the government should be more concerned with things to keep our people safe instead of changing a persons life style. these animal rights activists are wrong. if they don't like cock fighting they just don't go to watch one. the people that do this sport take very good care of their fowl. they are fed very well and wormed, to make sure they are in the best of health. leave our rights alone.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN AND MR.DAVIS,
i am writing this in the hopes that you will defeat hr-137.my reasons are economical and this is also my heritage.my forefathers came soon after the mayflower with these birds and have raised them since. i have them by way of my grandad as he got them from his and i will pass them to my kids and grandkids.this is a tradition that i dont want to end with me.
the economical side of it is this if i cant ship these fine birds then i could no way afford to raise them. it is a costly investment to say the least.and i will not be the only one to suffer the feed store owners that i shop at will lose thousands if just me alone stops raising these great birds.and i know of at least 20 breederds in my aera alone.
the bottom line(there allways has to be one of those huh?)is this, i for one voted to change things within our goverment for the better and i dont see this as better and i am not alone in my opinion.i dont see why a small group that is pushing this bill be allowed to dictate for the masses just because they have high payed lobiests in your midsts.i was hoping that the way america voted was a wake up call for washington and goverment in general.america voted for a change and here we are having our rights being took away one pice at a time. sounds like what has been happening for years now.america has voted please dont lets us down thank you for your time

What the ???? More Animal Rights Extremism at work!!! A Federal Felony for hauling a fighting chicken across a stateline? Federal Felonies should be reserved for crimes against humanity.Are they going to let out terrorists and put chicken haulers in?Our Federal Prisons are over crowded and cost the tax payer way too much as it is...Lets all start using some common sense, for a change and not buy into feel good legislation.

We have love ones over seas fighting to keep us free and the to keep this the land of the free.But you want to listen to the HSUS to try to get bills pass that is unconstitutional and goes against our rights.These bills need tobe voted down,so vote no on Hr137 and S231.The old saying is till death due us part and thats what it will be for some of us breeders and the gamefowl.

Re HR-137. This bill is ludicrous. It goes against everything our forefathers attempted to do with writing the Constitution. The HSUS are the ones pushing for this, and for what? They only want to control the people with their agenda. They, the HSUS, couldn't care less about animals, it is power they seek. Do not allow a group of known terrorists to sway you into passing these bills, that only benefit them. We have stood by and allowed them to strip us of too many constitutional rights already. OPEN YOUR EYES............to something other than the $$$$ and god knows what else the H.S.U.S. is feeding the people in Congress. All you have to do is go to thier website and read everything on it and you will see what they REALLY want.............find one bill that they support, that does not take away one of the rights that we should always have.....hunting, fishing, trapping, ect. then see how far you are willing to let them push you around. Stand up for the people that deserve it and not the "feel good" legislation that you seem to let go through without even thinking of all the people you are effecting by doing so.
The H.S. wants you all to believe that anyone that raises game chickens are bad people and involved in all the wrong things. That could not be further from the truth...........go to any sporting event in the country and you will find indivduals there that are far from "model citizens", including the some of the athletes thierselves. I don't see anyone trying to pass anykind of law to outlaw football, baseball.....ect. At least not YET!

I can't believe I live in the land of the free, when it is coming a time that now is. Because the HSUS doesn't like what I do with my private property, on private property they get to push there way of live and beliefs on me. I don't think so. Stop this sport, and reality you need to stop hunting,fishen,horseback riding, and dog racin. Because it is just so wrong for people to do that. People have generations in what they love, and in there animals. And its only going to take 1 generation to take it all away. The 10 commandments in schools was commonly known. Noticed what happend when 1 lady fought to get it taken out of the schools. Seems odd all of a sudden school shootings are common. You can't change a mans character or values, there are his and his alone. So HSUS stay out of my life. If you want to do something for the animals start sending some of that money to shelters. Its a known fact you don't help nearly as much as you claim. The U.S army had to use helecopters to drop straw to cows in a blizzard just this year. Why is our military doing this, I thought that is what the HSUS was for. I am an average working american with a family of 3. I got saved 9 years ago, and have faithfully been attending church ever since. Funny how if these laws pass, the average american,descent christians, all of a sudden are possible felons.

I know roughly 75 VETERANS that have fought for this country(now keep in mind, these are just the ones I know. They have made it the "LAND OF THE FREE" and the "HOME OF THE BRAVE" and guess what? All of them raise gamefowl. I can not believe that our government would ask them to put their lives on the line for this country and then strip their rights from them. I do not personally have any gamefowl, but I think these bills are ludicrous at best. VOTE NO ON HR 137!!

A lot of good people have made good sense concerning these bills (HR 137 & S162). Hopefully, you as representatives of the people, have your eyes and ears open and are paying attention to our plea. This request is for you to vote no to these terrorist acts against us as rural citizens. Citizens who have rights guaranteed to us by our forefathers. They knew that sooner or later, politicians would attempt to take away the rights and freedoms of the people. Where is our Supreme Court to protect this freedom given and guaranteed to us by the Constitution. PAC's and lobbying should be illegal in this country. Everyone knows that they were created only as a legal way to persuade our government in lawmaking. Every representative and senator should be investigated for illegal receipt of funds. Let's really see who is honest and who the true criminals are of this country. VOTE No on these special interest bills!!!

I have been a registered voter since I was old enough to vote. I have owned gamefowl for 33 of my 46 years. Now the HSUS is using our legislators as pawns to fulfill their goals, which is to end all animal use. We just had a very hotly contested election, and I heard all the promises of not allowing special interest groups to dictate policy. I never heard anybody campaign about a chicken. Stick to the real problems of this country and file these bills in the trash!!

HR 137 - Please vote NO! This bill tramples on the individual's and state's rights. It goes against the first and tenth amendment. It has the potential to destroy the economic livelihood of rural America. The sale and export of gamefowl is an industry that brings in hundreds of thousands of dollars each year in various states. This is not counting business done with feed companies, airlines, postal services, farm equipment businesses...
Passing this bill will pose a major health threat by forcing gamefowl breeders underground and making it less likely that health concerns will be reported.
By far the worst threat is that HR 137 will empower animal rights activists to control our government. This bill is strongly supported by these activists who are working under the guise of protecting the rights of animals. The reality of the issue is: The animals that are "rescued" are going to be killed by these groups who are "fighting for their rights". What right does a dead chicken have? The government should make a law that states that these AR groups must stop using Euthanasia and care for the animals they "rescue". Take away the profit factor and the issue would solve itself. They are in it to make money and gain power. They do not care for the animals.
If HR 137 passes: Rural citizens suffer; economy suffers; and serious crimes aginst humanity will be left unsolved because law enforcement will be protecting the "rights" of animals. What is the point if these animals are going to be put to death after their "rescue"? Who profits here? Animal rights groups who gain more money and political power.

I have read the press releases and the propaganda the HSUS has used to support these bills and others like them introduced in previous years. Anybody reading the comments by the gamefowl breeders should now see that there is ANOTHER SIDE to this issue. I understand that money buys access to government officals, and access provides the special interests an opportunity to feed the legislators their version of reality. It is a shame that the people whom the goverment supposedly represents don't have equal access and they lose their rights based on a very rich and powerful special interest groups' OPINION. Gamefowl breeders may be rural people and members of minority groups without access to their lawmakers but we know that the lawmakers swore to uphold the U.S. Constitution when they took office. We also now that we have rights and guarantees that the US Constitution and years of case law have guaranteed us. If this law passes, you be assured that there will be one lawsuit after another challenging every aspect of this bill. And if a lawmaker votes for this bill, all I can ask is "WHY DO YOU HATE AMERICA?" because that this what this fight boils down to. Who does the Constitution and Bill of Rights pertain to? Special interests or The People???

I am loosing my faith in OUR elected politicians. Bills like HR 137 clearly shows me that it is not the constituancy that is important to these elected men and women, it is the special interest groups. If this bill passes, it will just cement these beliefs and proove this awful thought to be true. It is a sad time in America when so many have done so much to keep our freedoms and now people like the very highly paid H$U$ political activists can distroy these freedoms with their ability to "donate" to our officials to whom we have put our faith with our votes. What is going on here? Why do I and all my counterparts fight so hard to protect the people and freedom of this country, just to have them stripped away by those who are suppose to represent us. I and my fellow servicemembers have sacrificed so much of ourselves for this country and would love to know that it has meant something! Why, why must you concentrate on destroying a sport that has been around for centuries. Why must you attempt to destroy a long tradition and way of life for thousands of Americans. This sport has been passed down from generations, and you want to strip that away. Why focus millions of dolars on this when it could be used for something that could truley be useful. Like cancer research, feeding and sheltering the homeless, lowering gas prices, our childrens education, ect.... I mean honestly, do you consider a chickens life to be more important than a human beings? From what I understand, we were suppose to have defeated communisim in the 80's, has it actually won and taken over our goverment who is suppose to be for the people, by the people. If you truley care about what the American public thinks, look at the pole above and you will see where the support for this bill is. Please, in the intrest of all that is fair and just, VOTE NO to this bill. Allow us to continue to enjoy our god given rights, our heratige, and our freedoms, Please remind me that those who represent our country actually care about its' people and remind me that we (the military) can be confident that we have elected officials who are doing their part to ensure that the freedoms we fight for are no being taken away from us! I cannot believe with all the problems we have in this country...some people are more concerned with chickens rights instead of our children,education,and war in middle east...it's still hard to comprehend,when in prison a group of inmates are having a conversation about why they are in here,one answers rape,the other murder,the 3rd replies arson,and the 4th replies I served in the USMC,FOUGHT FOR OUR FREEDOMS,WORKED EVERY DAY....BUT I'M HERE BECAUSE OF CHICKENS....IT'S A SAD DAY WHEN ANIMALS HAVE MORE RIGHTS THAN WE HAVE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is this what this country is all about? Making this a FELONY??? It should not even be a crime for God's sake. I wouldn't expect this type of law to be passed in Cuba or China! So much for a free society. I'm sure this is an animal rights type bill that will let the animal rights activists get their feet in the door to try to stop hunting,fishing, and trapping next. God help us if this law is passed!

I agree with Mark Marsh, this bill should not even be a consideration in a so-called free country. But fact is, its all about money and a not a moral issue. I am very angry with our system of legislation, its becoming as bad as a buy here pay here no credit check car lot. In other words. a little money down will get you what you want.

I have a question...Just how many bombs can go off in Baghdad before the city is leveled? It seems that one goes off once a day or at least every other day there and how is it possible that 5 Americans were kidnapped from an armed compound and killed? Isn't it about time we raised the level of importance of our military at least above the level of chickens?

to support animal fighting of any kind is inhumane and unforgiveable as a human race....we are supposed to be the caring and compassionate beings with a conscience and a respect for life. I think we should be able to find other more respectful hobbies and have animals to enjoy, not to fight

Isn't it amazing that it is ok in these congressmens (and womens)eyes that it's ok for a teen that lives in a state where abortion is illegal for underage kids without parental consent to go to a legal state and have an abortion performed and NO ONE says anything. Yet here we are with a bill making it a FELONY to cross from an illegal state to a legal state to fight a chicken. Ok lets see it's ok that you can cross state lines to kill a baby but not to kill a CHICKEN???????????????????Where have we gone my fellow Americans? God help us if this passes!!!

After many years of working in the intelligence field, for the US Gov., I can honestly say that the politicians pushing for this are corrupt. The real criminals are those who are undermining our freedoms, i.e.: HSUS and those elected officials who bow down to their "contributions". This will all come out someday and the "politicians" who have been bribed by HSUS will be exposed.

I support the bill and I feel that if a state say's that it is against the law the it is a crime.
People who say we "Show our birds" are full of it.
It is a crime and they are criminals.
Fighting chickens are cruel and inhumane.
I do not work for the HSUS or PETA I am a Law Enforcement Officer and with these crimes comes other crimes i.e. gambling,guns,drugs etc

I can go to the convenience store and buy a lottery ticket that comes in all flavors. I can get a ticket for the holiday season, I can get a red, green, blue or maybe a yellow one, I can get a $2, $5, $10 or maybe a powerball ticket. I can play poker online, I can drive to the riverboats or Harrah's Cherokee and let's not forget to mention the amount of money that will be wagered on the upcoming superbowl. Drugs can be purchased from any pharmacy or street corner in this country. The proposed gambling and drug arguements do not hold water, they are attempts to distort, deceive and side track the real issue. Are you as legislators of this country going to make animal rights equal to human rights and abolish all animal agriculture and animal ownership? I doubt it, so take a stand now! VOTE NO TO H.R. 137 and TO S.261.

My husband is a cockfighter and it is legal in our state. Mr. Rich, its people like you that give cockfighters a bad name!!! The gambling part-not illegal: it's a gentleman’s bet no worse than betting you buddy 10 bucks for something. The guns part- well I've been going to legal pits for 45 years and have never seen anyone with a gun. And as far as the drug part, I have raised 3 kids around legal pits, and all of them have grown up to be fine citizens of their communities. As far as your accusations - There is always a bad apple in the bunch, just as there is in law enforcement, THANK GOD we don't stereotype you guys. PLEASE VOTE NO ON THESE BILLS.

As I said before it is legal in only 2 states, so if you want to do it go live in those states but as for the other 48 it is illegal and when we catch you you will be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

You're absolutely correct Rich. America does have freedom of speech and the right to disagree. It also has a Constitution which is being trampled underfoot. If you took the time to educate yourself, which your obviously in need of, you'd find that these "laws" are un-Constitutional. Moreover they were illegally lobbied for and passed by corrupt politicians on the doles of HSUS. So, after you do your research, you'll find that your actually breaking the law of America. Rich, I would like to know about all of the so called crime you say is associated with the Del Rio Bust? The only crime I read about was the 350 roosters the so-called law enforcement officers and the HSUS killed with-out due process of justice first. If you are really a police officer, you should know its legal in two states to fight a rooster, also, it is not illegal in all 48 remaining states. There are states that you can legally fight a rooster, but you can't bet or charge admission. And why the hell do you care how much money is changing hands, no one took it from you. You are obviously an animal rights thug. As Mr. Crane said, these laws against cockfighting are un-constitutional. To support a deprivation of human rights is animal rights is communist. Our constitution was conceived to protect the citizens of the United States from this type of tyranny.

This bill is not needed. There are far more important law enforcement issues in our nation that need to be attended to. This bill is not the result of USDA recomendations. It comes from the influence the HSUS. The later is a non-profit group who funds legislators and influences legislation with funds that were donated under the false pretext of providing for animal shelters, of which the HSUS operates none what so ever. Some of the false information provided by this group is: 1. that the birds are trained to fight. The truth is the birds fight because of their nature, not because of their training. 2. That it is a magnet for criminal activity such as gambling. The truth is the events are held like a fishing tournament, golf tournament, or rodeo. Prize money is generated by the entree fee. As for wagers between gentlemen, far greater amounts are wagered on professional sports, and we do not proclaim them as federal felonies.
3. That cockfighting is cruelty to animals. The truth is, allowing to males to fight is simply allowing them to do what nature intended for them. Only the strongest survive to reproduce and strenthen the next generation. Everything in the world like to eat chickens, and they were given this unusual intolerance for other males by their Creator. Allowing them to full fill their role is not cruelty. Cruelty is what the HSUS does when they gather them up and put them in a gas chamber to slaughter them. 4. The extinction of gamechickens is not the only goal of the HSUS. All animal use is in their sites. Hunting, fishing, rodeos, and even pet ownership. 5. The USDA has at no time blamed gamefowl for the END outbreak in 2002-2003. To the contrary, the gamefowl enthusiasts cooperated to help end the outbreak. 6. Gamefowl do not pose a more serious threat for the Avian flu than many other totally legal activities.

These bills are a violation to my rights as an american. My father immigrated from vietnam to escape persecution by the communist government. But now as an american I am wondering why these people are being persecuted for owning these gamefowl. They impose no threat on the community and while practicing their sport. I personally don't feel this is right. I do see this bill as a violation of my 1st ammendment rights. If you vote yes for this bill you can't possibly have the true american dream. So if you do support this bill my question to you is why are you in office. If my rights are continously taken away I ask myself why did my father take the time and effort to travel to america. It is a pathetic attempt at my rights and I will continue to voice my opinion against it. I hope you see the problem with this bill and other bills like it when amercia has much more important things to spend tax dollars on. What will happen when the family farmers are gone? Who will supply our growing population with food if we continue to attack rural communities. It is a proven fact that family farms are fading out when we should be encourging them. I personally work on a dair farm and am currently in college and I see my employer struggling to make a living. So why should we attack rural life when it is in so much danger already. We should be making it easier for these people to continue their way of life instead of banning it. So in closing I say you should vote no to HR-137 as well as SB-261. My last question to all of the politicians is "When the farmers are gone who will feed us?".

Rich, My boy; I am a Marine and a Military Policeman. The illegal acts that you say happens at Cockfights; well I think that you are wrong. See I've been attending cockfights for a long time and have looked for illegal activites, and frankly, I haven't seen but any. Please don't try and discredit my proficency in being a Policeman either. I know what to look for! I understand that you have a right to express yourself and that's fine, that's why I fought in Iraq during 2 seperate tours. Yes, military policeman also have frontline combat tours as well! See what I don't understand is why there is so much concentration on cockfighting, when there is such an enormous drug problem in Kentucky and your beloved state of Tennessee! Why is it that there is a known Drug Dealer above my Father's and 87 year old Grandfather's house and nothing is being done---NOTHING! This slime has been dealing drugs for over 3 years now and we have contacted our Law enforcement officals ever since we found out about it! just seems like those who are suppose to SERVE AND PROTECT need to get thier priorities straight! This is the 21st century. Isn't it time we outlawed such barbaric activities? I am not an extremist. I support the use of animals in medical research, but watching animals fight is not something we should allow. Animals deserve protection from human foolishness.
