January 22, 2007, 10:39pm (report abuse)The true purpose of a community college is to serve the community by developing a workforce that meets local employers' needs. That's a very different mission than that of a four-year college or university.
There's already a glut of bachelor's degrees in the market and making it easier to get one will only drive the true value of a bachelor's down. It also contributes to the myth that a bachelor's is needed for many types of jobs.
Let community colleges be community colleges instead of junior universities. When the latter happens, it is the community that suffers at the expense of the 18- to 20-year-old crowd.
