To whoever is saying NO to this bill, remember you will never be healthy all the time, and nurses are the ones who will take care of you. This country needs nurses, so help this bill pass and help the immigrants fulfill their american dream as well.

I am an immigrant, I graduated from a nursing school from the US, and I am competent and qualified like anyone of you. I paid 20 times more tuition then my fellow classmates who got the federal grants and got educated for free. I bet that grant came from the tuition I paid. So why are you against my right to work? Give me a decent reason, if you have a job, why do you have to ruin it for others whose only hope to help their families back is to get a job here. Fellow Americans you don't have the slightest dimmest idea what the families of the students have to go through. Please help these newly graduated nurses help their families back home. Please vote YES to the bill, please don't stop the bill for selfish reasons mentioned above, because the truth is everyone including yourself are an immigrant, the difference is you or your family migrated here a dozen years before I did. God bless us all.

As long as one citizen is in need of work there should be no "special class" immigration, such as this bill is intended to do.

My family did not "migrate" here in the sense that you intend. My ancestors met the white man when he came on shore. And as far as I am concerned there is no need for any more immigrants in this land.

Love,

So if I understand you correctly, you want to take a job here that could be filled by a U.S. citizen, and then send money out of the country to your home country. Is that correct? If so, then I most certainly am against that.

Hey come on guys who supporting American and talking about their job opportunity, stop for a while and think about you situation without foreign nurses. Just Imagine, if all the foreign nurses those working in America and those waiting to come to America decided not to work for America, what will happen?
Soon you lazy guys walk on the dead bodies. Understand that.
If you have enough resources, in other words if you guys are ready to do this job / ready to study nursing, why the hell foreign nurses are coming to your country where stupid lives.

So, stop arguing unnecessarily and do your work. Let the government decide on the bill.

Wilson,

You seem to have a very high opinion of these "foreigners." Why not take all of them and go somewhere else and start your own little mutual admiration society.

The foreigners are coming here because they want out of whatever hellhole they are from. It certainly has nothing to do with any altruistic ideas on their part.

Charlie,
I am not planning on sending my money anywhere, I intend to work here and desire to live here as a rightful citizen. I was just trying to portray what I have been through and that I deserve to have equal opportunities as my classmates. that's all. And anyways what I do with my money is my business and who knows where some of the "so-called Americans" do with their money!!

Love,

You can do anything you want with your money, as long as you go somewhere else to earn it. NO immigration to fill jobs as long as American citizens are out of work.

Registered nurse occupation is listed in the Schedule A classification of shortage occupations by DOL, meaning, that it is an obvious fact that there are no American citizens to take up this job. So instead of lecturing foreign nurses to go somewhere else, if the nursing shortage is false then get your govt to change the status of this classification.

For Waldo

November 20, 2008, 9:03am (report abuse)

If there is a shortage, we can train our own nurses. First thing is to deny entry to the nursing schools to any non U.S. citizen. That would end any problems. VOTE NO.

For for Waldo,

November 20, 2008, 9:44am (report abuse)

Knowing Americans will be training to become nurses and will be done in a couple of years must be a great relief to the patients in need right now.

.

November 20, 2008, 10:10am (report abuse)

The reality is that the shortage is artificial. When the employers choose to pay adequate salaries those trained nurses not currently working at nusring will come back. The answer is not to use cheap imported labor.

..

November 21, 2008, 1:48am (report abuse)

Answer seems to be to stop importing labour & empower American nursing unions to blackmail hospitals in to paying higher wages. Of course the fact that it will be the patients who pay for this and not really hospitals can be conveniently ignored. It is of course the economically weaker sections of the society who will suffer who cares for them anyways? The answer is to hike salaries using shortage as a weapon and try to tempt back nurses who had abondoned their nursing profession for better money elsewhere. Who cares for nursing profession or the patients? lets just keep the competition out and rake in the moolah.

For ..

November 21, 2008, 11:56am (report abuse)

Bull fritters! You are simply trying to use this as a subterfuge to cover up the lower wages imported workers are willing to accept. Take a look at the amount of money being raked in by hospitals. Even the so-called non-profits are making money hand-over-fist. Paying full-time nurses a real wage instead of using travelling temps and other shortcuts will not cost any more than they are paying now.

NO to imported workers.

VA Employee

As an Engineer working for the VA, I get a $1,000 bonus for every RN that I get to take a position and stay for a year. Charlie seems to know a lot of unemployed Americans to take these jobs. Charlie - Be a pal and refer the hudlled masses of unemployed nurses to USAjobs.com and have them mention my name when applying for a job. Your cut of 10% could make you a millionaire.

Charlie

November 27, 2008, 1:05am (report abuse)

VA Employee,

If the employers would pay an appropriate wage there are a great number of trained nurses out there who would come back to nursing. As an example, my bext door neighbor is an RN who is not working as a nurse because the phamraceutical company she works for pays her $15,000 more per year to be a physician liason. There are many more out there just like her. Why would they want to work as nurses for the wages being offered. All this bill will do is further depress the wage scale for nurses even further. And one caveat to remember - if you are willing to settle for cheap help don't be surprised if the care provided is not so great.

Say NO to imported workers.
