June 11, 2008, 6:10am (report abuse)This bill mandates noise makers on hybrids to make them just as deadly as the vehicles that already kill 5,000 pedestrians and cyclists per year. It does not address the 5,000 dead but only the blind of whom 5 died in 2006 from ordinary vehicles. It is an expensive and ineffective solution looking for a problem based upon anecdotal reports, not hard facts and data. Instead of boot strapping "Smart Highways," it chooses the least effective solution, human hearing.

Either fix the legislation or let it die. This is terribly wrong and will only result faux noise makers being the last sound someone hears.
