H.R. 3819, The Veterans Emergency Care Fairness Act of 2007 (2 comments ↓ | 10 wiki edits)
H.R. 3819 would amend title 38, United States Code, to require the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to reimburse veterans receiving emergency treatment in non-Department of Veterans Affairs facilities for such treatment until such veterans are transferred to Department facilities.

I think an enrolled veteran with any emergency as determined by an MD or EMT should be transported to the nearest emergency room and paid by VA. Other insurance coverage can be handled through coordination of benefits.

I agree with Jim Stevens. I had an emergency several years ago and the VA hospital in San Antonio had no available beds. I was admitted to a local hospital instead and had to pay the associated medical bills out of pocket. Will this bill be retroactive?
