The Fairness Doctrine was a United States FCC regulation requiring broadcast licensees to present controversial issues of public importance in an honest, equitable and balanced manner.
Combine the repeal of the Fairness Doctrine with the emergence of the Murdoch/Clear Channel/Sinclair media monopoly and you have the makings of an immense propaganda machine. When Fox news pays its reporters to lie about a news story that would hurt one of its advertisers and our courts uphold their right to lie, we are in serious trouble. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=axU9ngbTxKw

Wow... talk about a piece of legislation with an ironic title. So while the FCC is more than welcome to fine broadcasters when it airs "indecent" or "obscene" material, it CAN NOT ask for equal time to present multiple sides of an issue? I'm not for the Fairness Doctrine--but I am against the FCC's wanton violations of the First Amendment in the name of "protecting children". I think anyone who argues for the Fairness Doctrine must also be for the FCC's ability to fine broadcasters, while anyone who argues against the Fairness Doctrine must likewise argue against the FCC's ability to fine. You'll rarely find anyone supporting both--it's entirely one or the other. And all are hypocrites who do.

This is a very important legislation. The "Fairness" Doctrine is anything but & must be stopped forever because it FORCES broadcasters to aire material, AT THEIR OWN EXPENSE, even if they cannot sell advertising to support it & ratings are 0.
Our taxes support Public Broadcasting System & National Public Radio.
Our taxes are not given to other broadcasters. If they don't take Tax Payer money then the govt cannot tell them they have to carry "equal/fair" broadcasts.
Do you really think PBS/NPR will start broadcasting conservative or Christian programs?
Do you think PBS/NPR will stop broadcasting shows promoting unpopular beliefs/interests?
If your view is unpopular, there's a reason. You cannot force people listen to your unpopular view. To do so is a communist tactic.

Broadcasters shud carry what listeners want. We hav a Constitutional right to free speech. Freedom means you can say it but I dont have to listen & my station doesnt have to broadcast it. If you cant stand competition then you should go home &lick your wounds.

It is hard to acccept that the government continues to go above and beyond its intended purpose, to server and protect American interest here and abroad. No social programs, no education involment, no forced opinions or ideas in laws and regulations and all the other pork fat and personal involvement it consistently keeps shuffling at us. Unfortunately we are partially the blamce because we voted them in office. We need to be more careful who we vote for!

The so-called 'Fairness Doctrine' is an attempt by the far-left to hush talk radio, ie Limbaugh, Hannity, Reagan, etc. Furthermore, the FD is a clandestine attempt by the far-left to extinguish Christian TV and radio. Imagine 10-15 years down the road, someone in the FCC deems Christian TV/radio as a controversial political issue(not too hard to imagine it) and a counter anti-christian message has to be presented. 1. Contact your Senators/US Rep and tell them vote for S.1748 and H.R. 2905, deemed THe Broadcaster Freedom Act of 2007. 2. Get out and vote. 3. check out this website: www.ACLJ.ORG to get more info.

FD is crap, its part of the liberal agenda to control freedom of speech.
